I bought the Sunpentown WA-1230E after searching for a comprehensive review.
Since I couldn't find one, I guess I owe one.
This unit comes well protected during the shipment with layers of cardboard and styrofoam protecting it. It has a hose that you attach to vent the hot air outside, and a chunk of heavy foam to help form a seal in your window. Unfortunately, for most windows, you'll have to work out something to make the window more secure. The opening in the window for the hose could give someone easy entry to your home. (In my case, I took a chunk of plywood, cut a circle in it for the vent, and screwed it into place.)
The unit is easy to use, and has a thermostat that you can set. However, I found that during the peak of the summer here in Chicago, I needed it on all of the time just to keep up. The 12,000 BTUs seem like a huge exagerration. I tried to figure out why it always seems to blow cold air, but the room took a long time to get cold. My best guess is because
