The VMC200L is a unique catadioptric optical system. It incorporates a primary mirror and a meniscus corrector just before a secondary mirror. By doing so, light is corrected twice on the optical path. The end result is that spherical aberration and field curvature are corrected to a high degree of optical performance. The VMC200L's primary mirror is f/2.5; the compound optical system is f/9.75. This makes the system much more compact and portable than its competition. With the optical correction placed before the secondary mirror, the VMC200L avoids the necessity of having a corrector plate and all the dewing problems associated with a closed optical tube. An additional key feature is the rack and pinion focusing that is placed behind the primary mirror. The use of this focusing system eliminates the image shift associated with most other SCT systems. This is especially important when using high power magnification or astro-photography. When focusing, the image is stable and easy to adjust.

The VC200L's catadioptric optical system is one of the most sophisticated optical designs available on the market today and has recently received some manufacturing upgrades. The New VC200L has a lighter-weight optical tube with improved anti reflection coatings, a metal carrying handle and now comes standard with a 7x50 finderscope. If you are looking for a photographic catadioptric, this is an excellent choice. With its unique VISAC (Vixen Sixth-Order Aspheric Cassegrain) primary mirror, the telescope gives a sharp image that is free of chromatic aberration and is flat and sharp to the edge of 35mm film. The VISAC optical system is composed of a concave primary mirror, a convex secondary mirror and a three element field corrector. Especially noteworthy is its sharpness and flatness at the edge, which far exceeds that of Schmidt-Cassegrain systems of the same aperture. It provides a pinpoint star image less than 15 microns, even at the edge of its 42mm image circle. The open tube design eliminates the dew problem that is common with conventional Schmidt-Cassegrain systems and its size makes it very easy to handle. The VC200L is well suited for observation and astrophotography of the moon, planets, star clusters, nebulae, and comets. Specifically for use in prime focus, deep-sky imaging or astrophotography with Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes, the Radial Guider is compact and sleek in design. This accessory makes it possible to simultaneously photograph and guide through the optical tube assembly of your telescope. The Radial Guider also eliminates the problem of differential flexure, because you're both guiding and photographing through the telescope. The Radial Guider is compatible with Celestron's C5, C8, C9Œ, C11 and C14 telescopes and comes with a unique prism angle adjustment screw. It must be used with a guiding eyepiece, camera T-Ring and drive corrector (dual axis preferred). Primarily for use with catadioptric telescopes, but also works on refractor telescopes having adequate back focus. This guider is a tremendous improvement over conventional off-axis guilders. Not only is the angle of the prism tunable, but it also maintains a fixed rigid camera orientation while still offering users the freedom to move the guiding eyepiece radially about 135°.

Vixen's unique catadioptric design features a high precision sixth order aspherical primary mirror, a convex secondary mirror and triplet corrector lens. VISAC is an abbreviation for Vixen's Six-Order Aspherical Cassegrain. The primary mirror is held by a retaining ring, instead of hooks to decrease flare and enhance constrast. The VC200L is an 8" f/9.0 highly corrected, highly specialized telescope for astro imaging. The VISAC provides high-definition star images to the edge of a wide viewing field and offers exceptionally outstanding performance in astrophotography. Even at the edge of the 35mm film format (larger CCD chips) stars are sharp (smaller than 15 micrometers). This is smaller than the resolution of fine quality CCD cameras, which means that the telescope does not limit the image quality. With its eleborate aspherical optical design it achieves an excellent image correction throughout the large illuminated field (42mm diameter fully illuminated). With the f/6.4 reducer you get much shorter exposure times. The reducer is a highly recommended optional accessory. The basic configuration includes a pigge-back camera holder. You can take photos both through the telescope and using a telephoto lens parrallel to the main instrument or you can use the VC200L for guiding while the camera sits on top.
