Large-Barrel 2" Eyepieces will permit you wide fields of view impossible to achieve with eyepieces of 1.25" or smaller barrel diameter. The focusers of all Meade DS-Series telescopes, with the exception of the DS-60 models, include 2" eyepiece-holders to accept the oversize Meade #937 2" Diagonal Mirror along with adapters for 1.25" and .965" eyepieces 07221, which in turn accepts eyepieces of 2" barrel diameter. An adapter is included to allow for using standard 1.25" barrel eyepieces in the 2" Meade Diagonal Mirror as well. (The Meade #937 Diagonal Mirror 07221 is required only on DS refracting telescopes (DS-70EC, etc.); However DS reflecting telescopes (DS-114 EC) do not require a Diagonal Mirror for the use of 2" eyepieces.)

Starbeam's unique flip mirror feature provides comfort and flexibility for viewing straight through and 90°. Viewed straight through, you see the natural sky with a 10 arc-minute (1/3 Moon dia.) "red-star" showing your scope's position. When your scope is pointed high, flip the mirror into position for more comfortable viewing. The size, color and adjustable brightness of the "red-star" makes it easy to see against any twilight to dark sky background. With its 39mm aperture, the projected image is easily seen any distance behind Starbeam, whether 2 inches or 2 feet! The finely made glass lens acts as a beamsplitter to combine the natural sky background with the superimposed red pointing "star." The first lens surface acts as a collimating mirror so the "red-star" stays stationary against the sky background regardless of your eye position. A compensating curve is designed into the second lens surface to provide the normal sky background view and is multi-coated to eliminate double images.Elegant in design and form, Starbeam is custom machined completely from aluminum and then black anodized, even down to the "push-pull" thumb screws. No tools are required to align Starbeam with your telescope. Two base channels are available, one for Tele Vue telescopes (except Ranger) and one for scopes of 4" or larger tubes. Mounting hardware included.

Many observers prefer to use a good-quality mirror diagonal instead of a prism diagonal with high-end telescope systems. The mirror in these 90-degree diagonals are meticulously polished to yield maximum performance. Housings are made of black-anodized aluminum. Barrels are internally blackened. Each 2" diagonal accepts both 2" and 1.25" eyepieces (with included adapter). The 2" eyepiece holder as two locking setscrews for maximum eyepiece security. These diagonals render images that are right-side up and reversed left to right (therefore, not recommended for terrestrial observing). Diagonals are not recommended for use in reflector telescopes.

Starbeam's unique flip mirror feature provides comfort and flexibility for viewing at any angle from straight through to 90?. Viewed straight through, you see the natural sky with a 10 arc-minute (1/3 Moon diameter) "red-star" showing your scope's position. When your scope is pointed high, flip the mirror into position for more comfortable viewing. Viewed this way, the sky orientation matches a refractor or SCT's image. The size, color and adjustable brightness of the "red-star" make it easy to see against any twilight to dark sky background. With its 39mm aperture, the projected image is easily seen any distance behind Starbeam, whether 2 inches or 2 feet! The first lens surface acts as a collimating mirror so the "red-star" stays stationary against the sky background regardless of how it is viewed. It's 6-arc-minute accuracy over any eye position allows you to pin-point objects - even with high-power eyepieces in the telescope. A compensating curve is designed into the second lens surface to provide the normal sky background view and is multi-coated to eliminate double images.Elegant in design and form, Starbeam is custom machined completely from aluminum and then black anodized, even down to the "push-pull" thumbscrews.
