The size, color and adjustable brightness of the "red-star" makes it easy to see against any twilight to dark sky background.With its 39mm aperture, the projected image is easily seen any distance behind Starbeam, whether 2 inches or 2 feet! The finely made glass lens acts as a beamsplitter to combine the natural sky background with the superimposed red pointing "star." The first lens surface acts as a collimating mirror so the "red-star" stays stationary against the sky background regardless of your eye position. A compensating curve is designed into the second lens surface to provide the normal sky background view and is multi-coated to eliminate double images.Elegant in design and form, Starbeam is custom machined completely from aluminum and then black anodized, even down to the "push-pull" thumb screws. The Bandmate Mars Type-B filter is a high efficiency, single band dielectric coating that achieves penetrating views of the Martian surface. The surface appearance is similar to that of the popular #21 filter. However, the Type-B features a broadband anti-reflection coating on one side and filter coating on the other that makes it far more efficient.

The Type-A is a dual band filter with different dielectric coatings on each side of the substrate. The dual band nature of the filter permits green and red through while rejecting all other visible colors. The effect is to enhance detail on the Martian surface while preserving the natural color of the polar caps and rest of the surface. Since this filter provides a most natural view, it is highly recommended for public viewing.

This exotic, dielectric, nonmetallic coating is 99% reflective across the full visual spectrum, resulting in the "whitest," most natural image available. The coating is painstakingly applied to Pyrex with a surface accuracy of a 1/10 wave flatness. The Everbrite is offered in both 1Œ" and 2" models. The diagonal bodies of each are machined from solid blocks of aluminum. In this way we can insure permanent alignment. The one piece body construction also assures heavy accessories can't force the diagonal body to "unscrew" from the barrel as with other brands.
