The DigicDV processor is no hype! I used the older Canon camcorders and once I compared the video to this one, I was amazed by how much clearer the images were. The price on this camcorder is below the average for a 690k effective camcorder, but they don't cut out on quality or features. The zoom may seem slow at first, but as you record and zoom in and out, you will notice that this is the perfect speed to not make you sick. The menu system is easy to figure out, it only took me about 30 minutes (with the manual) to figure out. Again the video quality on this little camcorder is on par with camcorders twice its size.
The low light wasn't as good as I had hopped, but is the same if not a little better than others such as the Panasonic, Hitachi, or JVC. The Sony does beat all in extream low light situations. There is no color in the night vision in the Sony camcorders, no matter what they tell you it is still gray. I recommend an external light or the Elura 70 for those who use it in low light a lot.
I took a still of my dog with it and connected it to my i960 printer (very easy to use) and printed a 4X6 that came out as good as the 6MP kodak camera I tested earlier this month.
Highly Recommend.
