The JVC GR-DVM90, from the high-end of JVC's digital line, is a digital dual camera, which means it can record as a camcorder as well as snap still images. As a camcorder, the GR-DVM90 offers a progressive-scan, 0.25-inch CCD with 680,000 pixels. Its progressive-scan CCD will give you better-looking still pictures than the interlaced-scan CCDs used on most digital camcorders. As a digital camera, it features an auto flash (with red-eye reduction) and a respectable 1024 x 768 (XGA) resolution. You can monitor your subjects via the 2.5-inch color LCD monitor which neatly folds into and out of the camcorder's body, or through the more traditional color viewfinder, that provides a 113,000-pixel display. This camera has been equipped with a 10x optical zoom (which isn't much zoom range these days), augmented with a 200x digital zoom function. The GR-DVM90 provides a playback zoom function and other digital special effects, and has the capacity to interface with your PC by way of the IEEE-1394 i.Link DV in/output. From there, you can transfer your video footage or still photos to the computer for editing. Images can be edited and you can create 20-second video emails. Also take a look at JVC's GR-DVM70.-- BN
