Features HDCD Decoder: HDCD represents encoding/decoding technology that drastically reduces digital recording distortion while retaining compatibility with the existing CD format. CD-R/RW Playback MP3 Decoder: plays finalized CD-R/RW discs containing MP3 audio files. When they are in MP3 format, a single CD-R/RW disc can contain upto 10 times more tracks than an ordinary audio CD. CD-R/RW discs containing a large number of MP3 files are ideal for use in long-play applications such as background music. Advanced Multilevel Noise Shaping DAC: features a Multilevel Noise Shaping DAC. This multi-level modulation powerfully removes the adverse effects of jitter, and because it is built into the output amp, a clean analog output with suppressed high-frequency interference can be directly obtained. 8-Times Oversampling Digital Filter: Increasing the oversampling frequency by a factor of eight makes possible an extraordinary degree of attenuation and reduces frequency irregularities in the audio range to an absolute minimum. Synchronized Recording Function: connect the SYNCHRO jack with a DENON cassette deck which is equipped with a SYNCHRO jack, then make a synchronized recording. Use the connection cord supplied with the cassette deck. Remote Control IN/OUT: When the DCM-380 is cable connected to an amplifier or receiver that supports the Remote Control IN/OUT feature, you can operate the DCM-380 via the remote sensor on the amplifier or receiver. This feature is very handy when the DCM-380 is placed in another room. April 15, 1999 -- HDCD may finally have hit the mainstream with Denon's DCM-370. The special format has been available for years, but typically in machines listing for well over $500. The 370 shatters this price barrier, and further ups the ante with a five-disc carousel.An HDCD-mastered disc (of which there are thousands) contains 20 bits of information, compared to a standard CD's 16 bits. If your ears have objected to a lack of detail in CD, like those of many an audiophile, you may find the extra 20 percent an indispensable feature. If you can't tell the difference, you can save yourself some money with a standard changer, like Denon's DCM-270.The 370 also includes a coaxial digital output, so you can make direct digital recordings or add an outboard D/A converter. Its own 20-bit Burr-Brown converter should prove sufficient for all but the most demanding of listeners, however. The transport has been improved for stability and quiet operation. Convenience features include a 20-track music calendar for easy reference to the selected disc and smart bi-directional carousel rotation, to quicken the maddening wait between discs. You can change up to four discs while one plays. Denon's DCM 270 is the company's least expensive CD changer to date. They've shaved $100 off its predecessor's list price to compete with the rock-bottom prices found in today's market. Given Denon's excellent reputation for mid-fi quality and value, this changer looks like an excellent deal. The 270 is the little brother to the DCM-370, without the higher-end features like HDCD decoding and the high-quality D/A converter required for it. You'll also be missing a digital output, so if you do much digital recording you may want to check out similarly equipped CD players instead.This Denon does everything you want a changer to do -- and nothing more. You can change all four discs while another spins. The carousel rotates in both directions to shorten the seemingly infinite wait between discs. Shuffle mode has the ability to never repeat a track until all others have been heard at least once.Also on board are the standard transport functions, such as disc or global programming, multi-mode repeat and direct track access from the remote. A 20-selection track calendar enables one-glance assessment of disc and program information, and CD Synchro compatibility gives you one-touch recording with compatible recorders.
