Pioneer's PD-F908 CD megachanger provides storage space for up to 101 discs. In households where more than one person might use this megachanger, the PD-F908's programmable disc memory helps keep everything organized as it allows users to store discs in up to three different categories or genres. You might program a personal catalog that excludes all of your spouse's country discs, for example, while your spouse programs a "no show tunes" selection. If only one person is using the changer, there's a simpler approach to programming the jukebox using the "best selection" feature -- just press the aptly-labeled "best" button when a favorite song is playing and that selection will be added to a personal playlist. Up to 20 tracks can be stored this way.If you've just borrowed a CD from a friend and want to pop it in the player, a single-load function keeps the disc from getting mixed in with the rest of your collection. Press the "single" button and the carousel mechanism brings a conspicuous slot to front and center; the single-load slot is wider than the rest, making it easy to load a disc.A titling feature simplifies the problem of locating specific discs in a fully loaded carousel. You can manually input a disc's title using either the remote control or the front-panel buttons to scroll through the alphabet. The player has an analog stereo output (fed by its internal, 1-bit digital-to-analog converter), and a Toslink optical digital audio output for connecting to a Dolby Digital receiver, preamp/processor, or external digital recording device.

Part of Pioneer's upscale "Elite" line, the PD-F17 101-disc CD changer replaces the PD-F07 as the company's high-end jukebox. Of the new features distinguishing this model from its predecessor, the standout is probably the CD-Text compatibility. Many of today's CDs have the artist and track information encoded directly on the disc. If present on the disc, the PD-F17 reads and displays this information. Alternatively, you can manually input titles with an optional keyboard. The only drawback is that the jukebox's memory associates the title with the slot number, not with a unique data sequence on the CD. If you move a disc, you'll have to delete the title at the old location and re-enter it at the new one. Another significant addition is on the rear panel. The PD-F07 had digital output only via an optical terminal. This model has both optical and coaxial digital outs for connection to a wider variety of devices. Like the other CD players in the Elite family, this model has "legato link conversion" processing -- which is supposed to improve high-frequency sounds -- and snazzy-looking rosewood side panels.
