Yamaha's CDC-575 is a very basic five-disc carousel changer, which makes it the least expensive CD changer ever offered by Yamaha. The lack of a high price tag shouldn't scare anyone away from it, because its sound quality is robust. Like the higher-priced models, it uses four digital-to-analog converters (two per channel) to provide a truer, more accurate, natural sound. Other useful features are a 40-track programmable memory, a three-way music search, and synchronized start that allows you to start recording to a Yamaha cassette deck with one touch of the remote. A surprise feature on such a basic changer is an index scan; many classical recordings mark separate movements with an index number. It also has a music calendar and intro scan feature. The CDC-575 uses Yamaha's PlayXchange system to allow you to replace any of the four non-playing discs while the music continues. With a very limited front panel, the 28 key remote becomes indispensable for anything except the most basic playbacks.

Yamaha's midrange five-disc CD changer, the CDC-675, won't deliver the 20-bit resolution of the higher-end CDC-775, but still boasts a few key convenience features. A comparable changer in this price range is Sony's CDP-CE335. A convenience (common among modern changers) is PlayXchange, which makes it possible to replace the other four discs while the fifth is playing. Tape edit capability lets you tell the CD changer the length of the tape you're using and it will automatically arrange the selections to match the recording time. The peak search function finds the peak output levels on the disc selections and lets you set the proper recording level for the best possible dub. The intelligent digital servo system automatically adjusts tracking, focus and motor speed to compensate for disc defects, warpage and dust. p>Other features include a super-silent mechanism, V-profile front panel, 10-key direct track access from the front panel or remote keypad, 40-track programmability, variable analog output and optical digital output, synchronized recording capability, music calendar, intro scan and three-level display illumination.
