Although Windows Mobile powered smartphones are few and far between in the US, their ranks just grew by one with the introduction of the Motorola i930, the first Windows Mobile device to support Nextel's iDEN network and its Walkie-Talkie services. Following the merger with Sprint, the Motorola i930 will be made available next month under the Sprint moniker, operating on the iDEN 800/1900 MHz frequencies. A clamshell smartphone, the i930 is powered by Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition for Smartphone, as opposed to the most recent version of the platform, Windows Mobile 5.0, which is about to find its way into several European smartphones over the course of the fourth quarter. Measuring in at 3.5" x 1.9" x 1.2" and 5.9 oz, the device is equipped with 64 MB of non-volatile memory and 32 MB of RAM, and includes the latest version of Pocket Windows Media Player 10. Also present is an integrated camera of unknown resolution, capable of both shooting stills and recording video. As with all other Nextel handsets, the Motorola i930 also features support for the Nationwide and International Walkie-Talkie service, offering a dedicated push-to-talk button for this feature. Other highlights include an SD/MMC card memory expansion slot, Infrared connectivity and speakerphone capabilities.
