"The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland" (09/07/1999) Children's Original Soundtrack, Sony Music Distribution (USA)Principal Cast: Kevin Clash (Elmo); Stephanie D'Abruzzo (Grizzly); Caroll Spinney (Oscar The Grouch); Steve Whitmire, David Rudman (The Stenchmen). Producers include: Martin Erskine, Jeff Elmassian, Keith Thomas, Ed Mitchell, Mark Hudson. THE ADVENTURES OF ELMO IN GROUCHLAND won the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album For Children. The first track of THE ADVENTURES OF ELMO IN GROUCHLAND, "Welcome to Grouchland," paints a pretty good sonic picture of Elmo's neighborhood, where "the streets are paved in solid mold." You can almost see dirty muppets dancing to the rhythm of clanking garbage pail lids. Pan flutes, elaborate percussion, and Vanessa Williams' sweet vocals round out "I See a Kingdom," a song about the importance of imagination and perspective. Of the love to be found in Grouchland, Williams sings "You'll find the beauty if you look at something right / It's all about your point of view." Oscar the Grouch backs (his son) Elmo in "The Grouch Song," which praises the virtues of lumpy oatmeal and other elements of the grouchy lifestyle, and shortly after, Steven Tyler sings "I Love Trash," in fine-rockin' Aerosmith form, complete with wailing guitars. Tyler's contribution is a great way to end an indispensable contribution to the Sesame Street catalog.

"Elmopalooza!" (04/14/1998) Children's Sesame Street, Sony Music Distribution (USA)Personnel includes: Kevin Clash (Elmo, The All-Amphibian Band); Jerry Nelson (The Count, Herry Monster); Carmen Osbahr (Rosita); Steve Whitmire (Ernie, Kermit The Frog); Carroll Spinney (Big Bird); Joey Mazzarino, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, Noel MacNeal (The All-Amphibian Band); Ivy Austin, Angela Capelli, Valerie Morris (The Oinker Sisters); Nate Albert, Saro Bdalian, Dicky Barrett, Dennis Brockenborough, Rosemary Butler, Anjeannette Chirino, Olga Chirino, Joe Gittleman, Jeff Gunn, Vangie Gunn, Kelly La Croix, Ed Mitchell, George Noriega, Carmen Twillie, Maxine Waters, The Children Of Polytechnic School (Pasadena, California) (background vocals); Gloria Estefan, En Vogue, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rosie O'Donnell, Fugees, Shawn Colvin, Steven Tyler, Kenny Loggins, Jimmy Buffett, Celine Dion. Producers include: Randy Barlow, John Boylan, Thomas McElroy, Denzil Foster, Paul Q. Kolderie. ELMOPALOOZA won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album For Children. The marriage of pop music and children's television has borne some serendipitous fruit over the years, from Josie & the Pussycats to Schoolhouse Rock. Continuing in that grand tradition is ELMOPALOOZA. This album is the audio companion piece to the TV special that celebrated the Muppets' 30th anniversary. The thing that differentiates this recording from those mentioned above is that it features collaborations between well-known pop stars and the Muppets themselves. "Caribbean Amphibian" is every bit as much of a natural as it sounds like in this duet by Jimmy Buffett and Kermit the Frog. Sensual R&B vocal group En Vogue are bound to make some monsters very happy with their contribution "I Want A Monster To Be My Friend." Shawn Colvin delivers an unusually affecting performance of "I Want To Live On The Moon," with the vocal assistance of everyone's favorite little orange guy, Ernie.
