Wow Hits 2004 by Various Artists (CD - 10/07/2003)
"Wow Hits 2004" (10/07/2003) Gospel Various Artists, Sparrow RecordsWasting no time, the folks at the WOW powerhouse, salute the upcoming year during the waning days of 2003 with some of the most engaging pop hits from Christian artists of the past year. WOW have been putting out shiny, well-packaged compilations of the top modern inspirational hits with the fervor of those 1970s K-Tel infomercials, and WOW HITS 2004 is no exception. If a listener simply wants to have many of the Christian songs they love from various artists, or if a curious fan wants to sample from all elements of the Christian music world, these hits--33 songs on two discs to be precise--are together in one place for a decent price. WOW's song selection runs the gamut, from direct entreaties to God like Jaci Velasquez's "You're My God" to more roundabout inspirational songs of simple positivity like Sixpence None the Richer's fetching pop tune "Breathe Your Name." Also, veteran Christian singer/songwriter Michael W. Smith's somber take on "Lord Have Mercy" rubs elbows with Jump5's jaunty teen pop on "What Do I Do." WOW HITS 2004, like the entire series, offers a hearty cross-section of optimistic music.
Didn't have the biggest hit's by an artist that year. (for eg. Spoken For not Wordnof God Speak, All About Love not Moment Made for Worshipping, You are a child of Mine not Letter From War, Stuck, not More to Life...)
A Piece Of My Passion [1/17] *
"A Piece of My Passion" (01/17/2006) Gospel Bynum, Juanita, Flow RecordsPersonnel include: Juanita Bynum (vocals); Myron Williams (vocals); Dave Cleveland (guitar); Craig Neilsen (bass guitar); Scott Williamson (drums). Gospel vocalist Juanita Bynum is committed to praising the Lord, and her unrestrained energy comes through wonderfully on 2006's A PIECE OF MY PASSION. Although she adds the occasional unusual flourish to her music (see the touches of Vocoder on the opening track, "Break Forth"), Bynum expresses her faith with fairly straightforward, though formidable, gospel fervor. And, naturally, the inclusion of a bold backing choir perfectly enhances tracks like "You Are Great," "Jesus, What a Wonder," and other celebratory songs.

Blur the Lines by The Crabb Family (CD - 03/28/2006)
"Blur the Lines" (03/28/2006) Gospel Crabb Family (The), DaywindThe Crabb Family are one of the hottest things going in contemporary gospel music. With their blend of Christian themes, light rock, R&B, traditional gospel, and commercial pop, the Crabbs make a joyful and radio-friendly noise. BLUR THE LINES offers more of the positive, faith-driven music that has earned the Crabb Family legions of fans across the U.S. As usual, frontman Gerald Crabb pens the lion's share of tunes, and his batch for BLUR THE LINES veers from power ballads to bluesy funk to introspective folk to uptempo R&B. That the Crabb Family can move so effortlessly between styles yet still manage to maintain their core sound and message is the group's most impressive quality, and that quality is in ample evidence on this 2006 release.
Purified by Cece Winans (CD - 09/13/2005)
"Purified" (09/13/2005) Gospel Winans, CeCe, INO RecordsPersonnel: Cece Winans (vocals); Coffee, Grits , Bonafide (rap vocals); Mario Winans (various instruments); Tommy Sims (guitar, keyboards, bass guitar, drums, background vocals); Michael Ripoll (electric guitar); Nashville String Machine (strings); Keith Thomas (keyboards, bass guitar); Dan Muckala (keyboards, drum programming); Dan Needham (drums); Erik Darken (percussion); Andy Selby (programming); Josiah Bell (drum programming); Chris Harris, Darwin Hobbs, Debbie Winans, Jerard Woods, Kayla Parker, Lisa Cochran, Melinda Doolittle, Nashon Fondren, Tiffany Palmer, Robert Torres, Debi Selby, Nissi Allen, LeAnne Palmore (background vocals). Recording information: Big 3 Studios, St. Petersburg, Florida; Platinum Lab, Nashville, Tennessee; Darkhorse Studio, Franklin, Tennessee; Fairway Studios, Anniston, Alabama; Blue Heaven Studios, Salina, Kansas (2005). On 2005's PURIFIED, CeCe Winans continues her famous family's legacy of stirring gospel music. This time around, however, Winans's soulful vocals are backed by more blatantly R&B-tinged tunes, with some songs even incorporating subtle hip-hop beats. While worship remains Winans's focus, this album shows that the beloved performer can hold her own in the secular pop realm as well.

Nothing Without You by Smokie Norful (CD - 10/05/2004)
"Nothing Without You" (10/05/2004) Gospel Norful, Smokie, EMI GospelThis is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel include: Smokie Norful (vocals, piano); Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Darrel Petties (vocals); Victor Caldwell, Cedric Caldwell (various instruments); Paul Jackson Jr., Al Willis (guitar); Steve Patrick (trumpet); Tim Bailey (organ); Tavarius Johnson (drums). Recording information: Father's Image, Brentwood, Tennessee; Ocean Way Studios, Nashville, Tennessee; Miralex Joint, Kansas City, MO. Smokie Norful found instant success in 2002 with his blend of classic R&B and gospel inspirations, scoring a Number One gospel album with his debut I NEED YOU NOW and the crossover hit of the same name. Two years later, with that album still outselling most other contemporary gospel records and his song still receiving frequent play on R&B radio, Norful attempts to repeat that success with sophomore effort NOTHING WITHOUT YOU. Norful opens on the strongest of notes with a worthy follow-up to his 2002 surprise hit; "Power" boasts a funky bassline and horns straight-out of the mid-70's Stevie Wonder playbook while Norful's malleable voice masterfully moves up and down the scales on a sweet, yet groovy song of hope. On "Worthy," he proves himself equally capable of more traditional gospel as he ably engages in call-and-response revival with a lively chorus. Norful is impressive in the manner in which he can fluidly switch moods, incorporating everything from R. Kelly/Babyface-style smooth R&B balladry to an edgier blues sound in his mix. With NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, Norful confirms his ability to create gospel songs that gospel and R&B fans can enjoy equally.
