The most famous coffee roasters of the West coast would not disagree that even the highest quality of coffee beans and the most sophisticated roast will not make a good cup of coffee without the right brewing system. Even the most sophisticated coffee scientists of the famous coffee houses all over the world will not disagree that brewing coffee might be a less scientific matter than an emotional if brewed the right way. Anyhow Bodum happens to have the only vacuum brewing system which satisfy both the coffee roasters of the west and their fellow scientists. We listened carefully to all of them, but unfortunately this did not meet our obligation to make the best coffee maker in the world. We had to add more than four decades of Bodum coffee experience and the famous BODUM design to create the electric vacuum coffee brewer BODUM SANTOS. The science of every day thinking. Off the power base you serve 6-12 cups of freshly brewed coffee with as strong and delicious taste, as if it came from a Bodum French press. A taste made possible with a high tech heating system developed especially for the Bodum Santos. No paper filters to make the coffee dull! Just a small easy cleaned micron nylon filter for a smooth and even cleaner coffee. An entirely closed brewing process where no aroma escape and where the relation between temperature and time has come to an ultimate perfection. A good grip handle and lid for easy one-hand pouring. No hassle...! 12 cups of coffee in less than 8 minutes... If plugged and 12 Bodum-spoons of coffee are waiting in the funnel to be brewed, you will even make your boss satisfied in 7 minutes. By the way you get the Santos with a two hours keep warm technology at an Unbeatable Price! The Santos comes in a glass clear heat resistant polycarbonate. And the design... won a gold award as one of the best designs in the US of 2001...good taste.

No other coffee maker has fascinated passionate coffee drinkers like the Santos. Here Jørgen Bodum tells the Santos story, and after you read it you'll understand why this passion for coffee has lasted two generations and for sure will last another two. In the mid-50's my father, Peter Bodum, imported a French "vacuum" coffee maker and sold it for a couple of years on the Danish market. Although he found it both expensive and unsatisfactory he was convinced that the "vacuum coffee brewing system" was the best way to brew a good cup of coffee. With this in mind he set out to develop the first Bodum vacuum coffee maker in cooperation with one of Denmark's first product designers, the architect Kaas Klaeson. Their slogan, "design should not be expensive," is one that Bodum still stands for! Product development in 50's Denmark needed a pioneer's vision. From the first model, called Mocca, to the highly successful Santos, my father improved both the practical aspect of the vacuum coffee system and the quality of the coffee brewed in it. In creating a coffee maker to use on the stovetop as well as on a spirit burner at the table, he bridged the gap between everyday use and special events. His new, revolutionary nylon filter achieved a break-through in coffee brewing quality, far overshadowing the existing cotton and glass filters on the market. This patented filter strained coffee to a fine, tasteful and still aromatic coffee with nearly no sediments left over in the cup - a feat no coffee filter of the time was capable of. With its patented "valve sealing" a safety issue was solved by preventing too high of a vacuum to be formed. Santos became the coffee maker of the 50's, 60's, and a good part of the 70's. Its popularity grew to the point you could find a Santos in nearly every Scandinavian home. During the 60's my father added a number of new models to the collection. The Domingo, small and convenient, for 4-6 cups, and the Rio, for a full 12 cups and used mainly by restaurants. The Danish supermarket chain Irma even set up a catering kitchen with as many as 100 Rio coffee makers constantly brewing. When the brewing process was finished, the funnel was removed and the glass jug was placed in a thermos box and delivered to private parties by van. In this way, a hot and excellent coffee was delivered as an after-dinner surprise. Aromatic and delightfully served! The magic of Santos and my father's other glass coffee makers held people spellbound! People wanted to follow the visual wonder of water rising into the funnel and its mysterious return as black coffee into the serving jug. A unique physical process with the ideal balance between the 94°C, 201 F water and just the right brewing time, extracting the finest aroma from all types of coffee.

A double-wall French press coffee maker, for those who want to share a delicious cup of coffee with friends and for those who already know that when you have tasted good coffee brewed in a French press there is no going back. The coffee maker is made from two layers of heat resistant borosilicate (laboratory) glass, which keeps the coffee hot and aromatic for a longer period of time (up to two hours). A stainless steel safety lid prevents the squirting of liquids when the plunger is depressed. The press has a black, stay-cool, non-slip rubber handle. To make gourmet coffee quickly and easily, place 1 tablespoon of coarsely ground coffee beans per cup in the carafe. Add boiling water and stir with a non-metallic spoon. Let steep for four minutes. Press plunger down slowly to filter the coffee. Pour and enjoy!

The Young Press was designed by the Bodum Design Group to develop a modern yet functional coffee press that delivers top quality coffee and can be used in a variety of environments. The durable frame is made of santoprene - a hard rubber like material. The windows are made of clear polycarbonate. Together, these two layers form a protective skin around the glass beaker that helps prevent breakage, making the Young Press an ideal press for home, office, boat, and even camping. The glass beaker can easily be removed for cleaning and placement in the dishwasher. For those who prefer to hand-wash their Young Press, they don't need to worry as much about knocking the glass beaker against a metal sink. The Young Press' frame also assists in keeping the coffee hot longer while insuring that the body of the press remains cool to the touch and is safe to set on most surfaces. Should the glass beaker break, it is easily replaced with the the standard Bodum 8-Cup Replacement Glass. The Young Press brews 8 - 4oz. cups of coffee or 1.0 litter / 34 oz. This size is ideal for serving 2 - 3 people. For best results, use coarse ground coffee. Just add the appropriate amount of ground coffee to the beaker (we recommend one 7 gram scoop per 4 oz. of water). Fill the beaker with hot water (just off of a boil). Leave about an inch from the top of the beaker. Give the coffee a stir with a plastic
