The D40 takes great pictures and is more compact and less expensive than other SLR cameras. Don't be misled by all the hype over megapixels, this camera has all you need. In fact, I generally don't even use the highest setting and the photos look great. You can make things as complicated as you want and control each and every setting or you can keep it simple and just use one of the pre-programmed...

This is the first SLR I've owned - I love the natural click sound of the shutter, I love the rubberised grip, I love the Nikon tag, I just lllove the battery life - amazing - I once shot more than 900 shots without a recharge. I like basically everything about the camera so far. It is very easy to take pictures. I like the fact that you can get different lenses. Ilove to take pictures of my kids and various things around town.
