Great camera if you like to speak through your lens. I am able get the "professional" shots at a reasonable price.
I really love to adjust the ISO and have gotten great pictures. The quality of the built-in flash was also a great surprise. In addition, I like the sharpness (if the focus works properly) and the more even distribution of light in the pictures than I was used to with my previous digital pocket cameras. The D300 takes some getting used to as you have to make a number of decisions about settings that lesser cameras make for you but that is the fun & challenge of working with it. You can set up programs with different settings for different types of settings (landscape, portraits, etc.) as well as a personal menu for settings you change regularly so you don't have to sort through the other menues.
