Not being cable subscribers, my husband and I have a massive DVD collection. We bought this DVD player for the convenience, and we haven't been disappointed. In fact, I'm getting ready to buy our second one. I found it comes in EXTREMELY handy when you are stuck to the chair or couch with a sleeping newborn and can't get up to change the DVD.
We do not have high definition or fancy TVs or audio equipment, so we have not noticed any change in the quality of the DVDs on this player versus the 1-disc players... they look and sound just fine to us.
It's pretty time-consuming to load the DVD information, but it makes it MUCH easier when you plug in your keyboard... it still takes time, but you only have to do it once - it hasn't been my experience that it loses the information when the power goes out. Also, it doesn't play 2-sided DVDs, so those still have to be played the old-fashioned way.
Overall, I think it's a great value for the money, and the convenience can't be beat.... (
