"Best of Kitaro, Vol. 2 [2 CD]" (02/09/1999) Rock & Pop Kitaro, Domo RecordsThe first 25,000 units of BEST OF KITARO VOLUME 2 will be available in a limited-edition that includes the bonus disc THE SOONG SISTERS. Choosing a best-of collection for Kitaro must be a difficult task. Everything he touches turns to gold. Best of Kitaro, Vol. 2 is a collection of pieces from his releases of 1988 through 1998. The selected compositions are typical of this man's techniques and styles. While there is only one unfortunate track with vocals (by the ever irritating Jon Anderson), all of the performances are lyrical. Kitaro's gentle touch and smooth sound design give the pieces special flair. Each piece has its own panache, charm, and grace. This is an excellent starting point for any Kitaro collection. As an added bonus, it includes The Soong Sisters, a soundtrack to the film of the same name. ~ Jim Brenholts

"Thinking of You" (11/02/1999) Electronic Kitaro, DomoPersonnel: Kitaro (various instruments); Masa Ito (classical guitar); Tito La Rosa (pututo, quena, sampana); Gary Barlough (programming). THINKING OF YOU won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best New Age Album. Personnel: Masa Ito (guitar, baritone guitar); Gary Barlough (programming). Audio Mixer: Peter R. Kelsey. Recording information: Mochi House. Photographer: Kitaro. Unknown Contributor Role: Tito la Rosa. Arranger: Kitaro. Thinking of You is one of the most beautiful CDs of all time, certainly in the new age community. It is by Kitaro, whose name means -- fittingly -- "a man of love." These dramatic atmospheres are not subtle. They are overflowing with bravado, romance, serenity, and peace. The most important element that Kitaro injects is love -- for his craft, his listeners, and himself. The powerful emotions surround deep listeners on this journey to ecstasy. This wonderful CD will appeal to fans of Suzanne Ciani, Constance Demby, Vangelis, and Dean Evenson. ~ Jim Brenholts

"Tenku" (06/17/1997) Electronic Kitaro, Domo RecordsSolo performer: Kitaro (sythesizer, guitar, piano, drums, percussion). Includes liner notes by Kitaro. Digitally remastered by Doug Sax (The Mastering Lab). Kitaro is an amazingly talented individual. He has been one of the world's premier electronic composers and performers for decades. During that time, he has created some of the most memorable music in the new age community. His output has been both prolific and consistent. It is difficult to review his albums because they only compare to each other. Tenku is a brilliantly lyrical yet entirely instrumental CD. Kitaro speaks volumes with his synthesizers. These romantic interludes are full of gentle melodies and lush synth washes. The atmospheres are vibrant and bold. They are connected by wispy drones. There are no dark overtones or edges; this is upbeat, pastoral ambience. There are few similar artists, but fans of Vangelis, Suzanne Ciani, Constance Demby, and Dean Evenson are likely to enjoy Kitaro's music as well. ~ Jim Brenholts
