Hewlett-Packard's 3150 combines a fax, copier, printer and scanner in a single black-and-white LaserJet unit. This multi-function device connects with Windows-based PCs (via parallel interface) for printing, scanning and PC fax functions. It has a 14.4 kbps modem which transmits faxes at 10 pages per minute and a 150-page fax memory in case the unit runs out of paper.
The 3150 offers a complete set of convenience features, including a 30-page auto document feeder, 225-number speed dialer and automatic redial. You can forward faxes, broadcast a document to multiple locations and retrieve faxes from remote locations. The copy function can enlarge up to 200 percent, reduce down to 50 percent, and collate.
The printer is capable of 600 x 600 dpi resolution and outputting six pages per minute. The TWAIN compliant black-and-white scanner produces 600 dpi images in up to 256 shades of grayscale. The unit comes with optical character reading software.
Although the 3150 is loaded with fax and PC features, note that it does not include a built-in telephone.
