The Garmin Nuvi 255w hits the sweet spot of functionality and price for many users. Combining affordability with features typically reserved for more advanced products such as Text-To-Speech and a widescreen. Want to take it even further? The Nuvi 255w is also compatible with optional live traffic reporting.A common complaint is the slightly underpowered speaker, however as long as you are not trying to listen to loud music and the GPS simultaneously, it shouldnt impact most users. With over six million Points of Interest your destination should be easily within reach.

Two of the most popular features in auto GPS devices are present in this simple to operate GPS. Text to speech enables the GPS to not only tell you the direction and distance to the turn, but will also speak the name of the street. A vivid widescreen display makes many of the menu buttons a little bit bigger (easier to tap) and will provide you with a little bit wider view of the next turn. While it doesnt have some of the fancy features of its siblings like multi-destination routing, optional traffic services, or Bluetooth, the Nuvi 260w still includes many of the must have features people are looking for today at an easy on the wallet price. Dont need text-to-speech? Check out the similar Nuvi 250 instead.

Want (almost) all of the functions of a top of the line GPS at a middle of the road price? The Garmin Nuvi 265WT might be your dream GPS. Perhaps the biggest reason to consider the 265WT is the included lifetime traffic reporting system. While supported by occasional advertisements, the ads are fairly infrequent and unobtrusive. You will also find a widescreen display, Text-to-Speech, and Bluetooth technology for hands-free calling. About the only advanced feature not included is multi-destination routing-- but if you can live without that, this is a great GPS and a fantastic value when considering the lifetime traffic subscription.

Despite being superseded by the Nuvi 785, the 780 is still a top performing GPS that can now be found at bargain prices. When compared with the legendary Nuvi 760, the only difference is that the 780 includes MSN Direct services for live traffic reporting and data services like weather. But here is a tip, you can sometimes find the Nuvi 760 and the GDB 50 traffic receiver as separate purchases for less than the cost of the 780. The Nuvi 760 plus the GDB 50 receiver will be identical to the 780.

Looking good on paper, the Garmin Nuvi 755T is an almost fully loaded GPS with a widescreen, multi-destination routing, FM Transmitter, an included traffic receiver and lifetime traffic subscription, and can even optimize the order of a long list of stops. You dont get Bluetooth like that found on the Nuvi 765T, but most people can live without that feature. However under the hood the 755T feels a bit underpowered and often doesnt give you quite enough warning of turns ahead. The older Nuvi 750 or the similarly equipped Nuvi 265WT might be a better option.

Perfect for people like sales reps, or just anyone who needs to visit a number of locations in one day. The Garmin Nuvi 760 offers a feature seldom seen in other GPS devices, the ability to take a list of destinations and figure out the most efficient order to visit them all.Other handy features include Bluetooth hands free calling, the ability to send audio from the GPS to your cars radio, as well as the ability receive live traffic updates through the traffic subscription service. If those sound like features you might need, the Nuvi 760 has become a benchmark other GPS devices will be compared to.

Sometimes simple is better, and for that there is the Garmin Nuvi 205w. The Nuvi 205w does include voice prompts, but does not include the coveted Text-to-Speech feature to speak street names. The Nuvi 205w is also the Nuvi that comes with a widescreen and is easiest on the wallet.Despite the small price, the Nuvi 205w can be connected to live traffic systems with an optional traffic receiver. If you need maps of Canada, consider the Nuvi 255w instead as the 205w sold in the USA contains only maps of the contiguous United States.

Likely to be the least expensive TomTom model with a widescreen display and Text-to-Speech, the ONE XL-S still has many features that are only available on more top of the line models from other companies. For example this TomTom supports multi-destination routing so you can create one single route with multiple stops in the trip. The XL series is also compatible with optional traffic services which feed live traffic updates to the GPS.One of the few drawbacks to this model is that the processor speed isnt quite as good as other models. Routing and rerouting if you miss a turn are still fast, but some address searches, POI searches, and menu functions seem a little more sluggish than other models. This shouldnt delay you more than a few seconds however and the TomTom ONE XL-S offers one of the best values for GPS devices featuring a widescreen display.

Most GPS devices operate like a one way street-- they talk to you but you cant talk back. Not so with the Nuvi 850. Garmins first device with speech recognition technology, the Nuvi 850 will listen to your commands and then guide you appropriately. Unlike competitive devices which simply allow address input, most of the menu system in the Nuvi 800 series will accept voice commands. While you cant describe this GPS as inexpensive, it does offer top of the line features for someone who spends quality time in their car every day. Other top-end features like route optimization and an FM transmitter are included, but Bluetooth and a traffic receiver are not included. Check out the Garmin Nuvi 860 for those features.

One of the first GPS devices to include text-to-speech (will say street names, not just turn right), the StreetPilot c340 was a great device. It still offers a good value, but is beginning to show its age. No longer in production, the c340 is much bulkier than more recent models with similar functionality, and the weaker GPS chipset will make the device take longer to get a signal. In its day, the Garmin c340 was a leader in the pack, but if you are going to spend three figures on a GPS device today-- you might as well get something a little more recent such as the Nuvi 260 which offers similar mapping and text-to-speech, but with a more powerful GPS chip and a much slimmer size.

The Nuvi 360 is no longer in production so there is a danger that if you purchase the GPS now, it could come with an older map. This model also comes with an older flip up style antenna which is slightly less convenient. It still remains a very popular model however, and if you are not concerned with updated roads, the Nuvi 360 could be a great bargain. This Nuvi will speak street names in addition to standard voice prompts (text-to-speech). The mount is still one of the best designs in the industry where the power cord plugs into the mount which makes connecting and disconnecting the GPS to the mount easier. Bluetooth hands free calling also became available on this early Nuvi.
