While supported by occasional advertisements, the ads are fairly infrequent and unobtrusive.You will also find a widescreen display, Text-to-Speech, and Bluetooth technology for hands-free calling. About the only advanced feature not included is multi-destination routing-- but if you can live without that, this is a great GPS and a fantastic value when considering the lifetime traffic subscription.

Sometimes simple is better, and for that there is the Garmin Nuvi 205w. The Nuvi 205w does include voice prompts, but does not include the coveted Text-to-Speech feature to speak street names. The Nuvi 205w is also the Nuvi that comes with a widescreen and is easiest on the wallet.Despite the small price, the Nuvi 205w can be connected to live traffic systems with an optional traffic receiver. If you need maps of Canada, consider the Nuvi 255w instead as the 205w sold in the USA contains only maps of the contiguous United States.

Enter the TomTom 730. Using anonymous data from other TomTom users, routes and estimated travel times are now based in part on data from other drivers with TomTom devices. In many areas the data (dubbed IQ routes) makes a huge difference in route quality and time estimates over previous TomTom models.Another new feature is Active Lane Guidance which can help you determine not only which direction an exit leaves the highway, but also which lane you need to be in to take that exit. People who live on the Interstate will appreciate the feature, however right now that data is only sparsely available. An optional traffic receiver can also add to the intelligence of this super smart GPS.
