In many areas the data (dubbed IQ routes) makes a huge difference in route quality and time estimates over previous TomTom models.Another new feature is Active Lane Guidance which can help you determine not only which direction an exit leaves the highway, but also which lane you need to be in to take that exit. People who live on the Interstate will appreciate the feature, however right now that data is only sparsely available. An optional traffic receiver can also add to the intelligence of this super smart GPS.

One of the first GPS devices to include text-to-speech (will say street names, not just turn right), the StreetPilot c340 was a great device. It still offers a good value, but is beginning to show its age. No longer in production, the c340 is much bulkier than more recent models with similar functionality, and the weaker GPS chipset will make the device take longer to get a signal.In its day, the Garmin c340 was a leader in the pack, but if you are going to spend three figures on a GPS device today-- you might as well get something a little more recent such as the Nuvi 260 which offers similar mapping and text-to-speech, but with a more powerful GPS chip and a much slimmer size.

The package contains the GPSM4000 navigator, along with an antenna that receives real-time traffic information. Not only can it guide you wherever you're going accurately and efficiently, it can deliver real-time traffic updates along your programmed route (subscription required). You'll be warned of accidents and traffic jams well in advance, so you can avoid them and all the headaches that come with them. Best of all, when you purchase this Nav One package, you'll get a three-month subscription to the real-time traffic service free. The GPSM4000 navigator features a compact design with a large, easy-to-read 5" screen. To select your destination or make system adjustments, simply tap the screen — the menus are simple to follow. You can navigate to specific addresses, intersections, or, with the touch of a single button, to the center of town. Along your route, you can also find several different points of interest, including restaurants, hotels, tourist attractions and more. Six million of them are loaded into the system. You can also customize your route options, and take only the types of roads you prefer. The navigator comes loaded with detailed maps of the U.S. and Canada, which display on the screen as you drive. Fourteen zoom levels and 3-D views of intersections make using these maps easy, and you get voice prompts that tell you exactly when you'll need to make your next move. Should traffic incidents occur when you're on a route in a real-time traffic coverage area, alerts show up in easy-to-read dialog bubbles on the screen. The system will use color coding to show you average traffic speeds on the roads ahead of you. Cobra's iASAP system locks on to satellite signals quickly and keeps a tight hold on them. You'll receive constant guidance, even when you're driving through obstructed areas like tall buildings in the middle of a city. Should you miss a turn, the system recalculates your route automatically. And if you like going off-road, you can record the trails you ride as you go, making it easier to come back to them later.
