Enter the TomTom 730. Using anonymous data from other TomTom users, routes and estimated travel times are now based in part on data from other drivers with TomTom devices. In many areas the data (dubbed IQ routes) makes a huge difference in route quality and time estimates over previous TomTom models.Another new feature is Active Lane Guidance which can help you determine not only which direction an exit leaves the highway, but also which lane you need to be in to take that exit. People who live on the Interstate will appreciate the feature, however right now that data is only sparsely available. An optional traffic receiver can also add to the intelligence of this super smart GPS.

The XL series is also compatible with optional traffic services which feed live traffic updates to the GPS.One of the few drawbacks to this model is that the processor speed isnt quite as good as other models. Routing and rerouting if you miss a turn are still fast, but some address searches, POI searches, and menu functions seem a little more sluggish than other models. This shouldnt delay you more than a few seconds however and the TomTom ONE XL-S offers one of the best values for GPS devices featuring a widescreen display.

If the innovative mount doesnt appeal to you, consider the Garmin Nuvi 260. Or if your eyes would be happier with a widescreen, look at the TomTom XL 330s. Otherwise, the 130s will be a solid companion for your next trip.
