The DiamondMax 40 features Maxtor's DualWave technology. DualWave supports ATA-5/UltraDMA 66, yet incorporates a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) to control disk functions and a separate 50 MIPs RISC processor to fulfil host commands. The large 2MB 100MHz SDRAM buffer works with the dual processors to move data at full speed while the DSP and RISC processors perform all other drive functions. The DiamondMax 40 also features ShockBlock mechanics, which is an enhanced shock-resistance design that prevents handling-generated shock levels of up to 1,000G without drive failure. It reduces the tendency for the head to lift from the disk during a shock load and eliminates improper alignment during re-contact if the head does lift. And, this drive has giant magnetoresistive (GMR) heads, which allow the drive to reach a higher areal density. This 40.9GB drive is SMART compliant and supports MaxSafe media scan, which detects and repairs drive problems and performs cyclic redundancy checks. Maxtor backs this drive with a three-year warranty and its No Quibble service policy. The No Quibble policy includes advance replacement of your drive within two business days, MaxFax 24-hour automated technical support, and available phone technicians Monday through Friday.
