The Cheetah 36 features an 80-pin, single-connector attachment (SCA) Low Voltage Differential (LVD) Wide Ultra2 SCSI interface. Wide Ultra2 SCSI delivers transfer rates up to 80MB per second - double the current Wide Ultra SCSI standard, extends the SCSI bus cable length to 25 meters (12 meters for 15 devices), and provides easy system configuration for up to 15 peripherals. It also provides increased performance for users of video, database servers, RAID arrays, workstations, CAD, CAM, and high-end desktop applications. It is fully compatible with all existing SCSI standards and includes a unique Diff Sens circuit to determine the type of SCSI bus the device is being used on. LVD drives have lower voltage requirements than HVD (High Voltage Differential) drive, which allows the differential drivers and receivers to be integrated into the drive's onboard SCSI controller. The older Ultra HVD design requires separate and expensive high-voltage components. This Cheetah also features a SCA connection which incorporates all disk power, I/O, and configuration connections into its 80-pin connector. SCA was created to provide a standard connection for systems using hot-swappable drives. SCA connectors are designed to connect to a SCSI backplane that provides power and configuration settings such as SCSI ID and termination of the SCSI bus. The Cheetah 36 has received Seagate's ''AV Professional'' stamp of approval which means that Seagate has fine tuned this drive to meet the requirements of today's most demanding audio/visual applications. It features embedded-servo technology to eliminate the need to perform periodic recalibration which slows down data transfer, making this drive ideal for AV applications. Embedded-servo technology gets rid of data interruptions that cause dropped frames in video applications. The Partial Response Maximum Likelihood (PRML) technology keeps data clear from background interference and allows Seagate disk drives to increase areal density (disk capacity), boost transfer speed, improve yield through the drive's ability to self-calibrate and lower disk noise. It also uses Advanced SCSI Architecture II (ASA II) to increase drive performance and provide easy cross-platform migration. The 3.5-inch, half height Cheetah 36 drive also supports Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) to help prevent data loss and provide advance warning of drive failures.
