These Days [Remaster] by Bon Jovi (CD - 02/09/1999)
"These Days [Remaster]" (02/09/1999) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, MercuryBon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals, harmonica, percussion); Richie Sambora (acoustic & electric guitars, electric sitar, background vocals); David Bryan (keyboards, background vocals); Tico Torres (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Suzie Katayama (accordion); Jerry Vivino (tenor saxophone); Ed Manion (baritone saxophone); Mark Pender (trumpet); Richie LaBamba (trombone); Robbie Buchanan (keyboards, programming); Jerry Cohen (keyboards); Hugh McDonald, Randy Jackson (bass); Tommy Funderburk, Rory Dodd (background vocals). Producers: Peter Collins, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora. Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York). Riding a resurgence in popularity with the triple-platinum success of their greatest-hits package CROSSROADS, Bon Jovi returns with THESE DAYS, their first studio album since 1992's KEEP THE FAITH. And it's obvious that the alterna-rock nihilism exhibited by many of their more angst-ridden peers has affected the band's material, giving the blue-collar romanticism of the Jersey rockers a darker vibe. Jon Bon Jovi's characters on THESE DAYS weigh in with more mature and darker conflicts than those explored on previous albums. On "Hey God," a family man on the brink of homelessness cries out for spiritual guidance. The title track goes a step further, describing the sheer hopelessness that goes with not having a place to live. Other characters who've lost their way are either on quests of faith ("Something To Believe In") or have found other altars to worship at ("Something For The Pain"). Along with heightened lyrical development, the group's sound continues to evolve away from the usual pop-metal fare. Jon Bon Jovi occassionally drifts into a raspy voice that is a direct nod to Bruce Springsteen, while David Bryan's keyboard playing veers from the lush orchestration of "Lie To Me" to a simpler harpsichord tone in "If That's What It Takes." Still, Bon Jovi remain a guitar-driven band, and Richie Sambora's muscular style has expanded to include some tasty electric-sitar playing. Though Jon Bon Jovi's sunny optimism is tempered by the murkier subject matter, he still closes THESE DAYS with "Diamond Ring," a gentle matrimonial proposal that shows this Jersey boy is still a romantic at heart.
Keep the Faith [Remaster] by Bon Jovi (CD - 02/09/1999)
"Keep the Faith [Remaster]" (02/09/1999) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, MercuryBon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals, guitar); Richie Sambora (guitar); David Bryan, Tico Torres, Alec John Such. Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York). When KEEP THE FAITH was released in 1992, it had been four years since the commercial success of NEW JERSEY. Times and tastes had changed, with bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam stealing the spotlight. KEEP THE FAITH reflects the change, as the straight-ahead, Springsteenish rock of past efforts gave way to the more adult-contemporary sound; they even cut their hair! "I Believe" is a rocker about looking inward for salvation. "Keep the Faith" holds up to the band's earlier material in hard-rocking style. "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" (co-written by Desmond Child before he was "Livin' La Vida Loca") is about making every minute count. "In These Arms" is another standout track, and sounds the most like the pop material on NEW JERSEY. "Bed of Roses" is an excellent ballad featuring guitarist Richie Sambora on background vocals. The band takes a stab at a rock epic with the 10-minute "Dry County." "Little Bit of Soul" is just that--a gritty, bluesy number about not giving up. While KEEP THE FAITH is quite different from the band's early days, it shows that the Garden State rockers weren't content to be mired in a sound from 1986. Mature, good-time rock & roll.
100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong... [Box] by Bon Jovi (CD - 11/16/2004)
"100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong... [Box]" (11/16/2004) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, Island Records (USA)This release includes a bonus DVD. Bon Jovi: Richie Sambora, Jon Bon Jovi (vocals, guitar); Hugh McDonald (bass guitar); Tico Torres (drums); Alec John Such. Additional personnel include: Dave Stewart , Eric Bazilian, Garo Yellin, Jerry Cohen, Joe Perry , Kenny Aronoff, Lance Quinn, Mark Hudson, Pino Palladino, Shawn Pelton, Kurt Johnston, Rick Valenti, Jeff Kazee, Carol Brooks, Bobby Bandiera. Liner Note Authors: Pierre Robert; Jon Bon Jovi. To commemorate both the band's two-decade mark in the music industry and the selling of 100 million records, Bon Jovi culled together this four-CD/one-DVD collection. An homage to Elvis Presley, both in the title and cover concept (with each group member wearing a gold lame outfit), this set pays tribute to Bon Jovi's fans, many of whose written testimonials are sprinkled throughout the accompanying photo-packed booklet. Jon Bon Jovi also contributes explanations of specific songs and his own thoughts about the band's 20-year journey. Most importantly, the 50 tracks that make up the audio portion of FANS reinforce how this New Jersey outfit has managed to survive in a fickle market for so long--a wealth of well-written tunes built on a foundation of great hooks, heartfelt sentiment, and well-honed musicianship. There's plenty to sift through here, including demos of much-loved favorites ("Someday I'll Be Saturday Night"), soundtrack contributions ("Edge of a Broken Heart") and solid international B-sides ("Ordinary People"). Most impressive is the above-average amount of previously unreleased fare (including lead-vocal performances from each band member). The DVD is filled with rare archival material, including interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, making the set essential for Bon Jovi's millions of fans.

Have A Nice Day [DualDisc] [Limited] [9/20] *
"Have a Nice Day [Limited]" (09/20/2005) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, Island Records (USA)This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other. Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals); Ritchie Sambora (guitar, background vocals); David Bryan (keyboards); Hugh McDonald (bass guitar); Tico Torres (drums). Additional personnel: Jennifer Nettles (vocals). Recording information: Ocean Way Recording, Hollywood, California; Sanctuary Sound II, New Jersey (2005). True troubadours of arena rock and pop-metal, Bon Jovi were not only still standing in the 2000s, they were still releasing albums of original material that packed much of the melodic wallop and anthemic muscle of their efforts from the '80s and early '90s. A case in point is 2005's HAVE A NICE DAY, which finds the band mining a harder rock sound and producing bigger, more sweeping choruses than ever before. Despite the classic Bon Jovi sound, however, singer Jon Bon Jovi's lyrics are by turns thoughtful (he even conjures the specter of Bob Dylan on "Bells of Freedom," a nod to Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom") and romantic ("Wildflower"). Though the mix doesn't always work, Bon Jovi sounds plenty energized here, and young-at-heart enough to still crank up the volume. HAVE A NICE DAY sports the streamlined rock punch and pop smarts on which the band has built its reputation.

One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001 by Bon Jovi (CD) [IMPORT - Germany]
"One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001" (05/14/2001) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, Mercury Records (Germany)Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals, guitar); Bob Geldof (vocals); Richie Sambora (guitar, background vocals); David Bryan (keyboards, background vocals); Hugh McDonald, Alec John Such (bass, background vocals); Tico Torres (drums). Producers: Obie O'Brien, Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Luke Ebbin, Desmond Child. Recorded at various locations between April 28, 1985 & November 27, 2000. Includes liner notes by Lonn Friend. Following a five-year hiatus that found Jon Bongiovi pursuing an acting career, these Jersey boys emerged with the millennial CRUSH, an album that found them making a mini-comeback marked by chart success and Grammy nominations. On the heels of this wave of prosperity comes ONE WILD NIGHT, taken from a collection of hand-picked live gigs meant to reward long-standing fans (who've clamored for a concert album) and give newer ones a taste of Bon Jovi's career-spanning global performances. In the 15-year span covered on this record, it's interesting to hear Bon Jovi's creative development. You get in-Japan versions of their breakout hit "Runaway" and "In And Out Of Love," an early number soaked in the crunching guitar and hard-hitting rhythms of the band's pop-metal origins. The flip side finds these same guys as family men pouring themselves into introspective fare like "Just Older." In between are Zippo-worthy renditions of "Livin' On A Prayer," "Something For The Pain" and the title track. Best of all are surprise covers of "I Don't Like Mondays" (performed in London with Bob Geldolf on the 10th anniversary of Live Aid) and a ferocious "Rockin' In The Free World" recorded in South Africa shortly after Nelson Mandela's release.

"Bon Jovi [Remaster]" (10/05/1998) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, Mercury Records (Germany)Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals, guitar); Richie Sambora (guitar, background vocals); David Rashbaum (keyboards, background vocals); Alec John Such (bass, background vocals); Tico Torres (drums). Additional personnel: Aldo Nova, Tim Pierce (guitar); Roy Bittan (keyboards); Huey McDonald (bass); Frankie La Rocka (drums); David Grahmme, Mick Seeley (background vocals); Chuck Burgi, Doug Katsoras. Engineers: Scott Litt, Jeff Hendrickson, Larry Alexander. Recorded at The Power Station, New York, New York. Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York). German remaster This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Bon Jovi's 1984 debut not only became a blueprint for the band's multi-platinum releases of later years, but a definitive work for an entire genre. Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered BON JOVI continues to stand out from the pack. "Runaway," with its infectious hook and keyboard work from E-Streeter Roy Bittan, was discovered by a New York DJ and gave the band some early exposure. "She Don't Know Me" is a catchy mid-tempo rocker. "Shot Through the Heart" turns the hard-rocking pulse up a few notches, with Richie Sambora letting loose on the kind of solo that would be copied by a plethora of L.A. bands. David Bryan's keyboards, an integral part of the group's sound, work nicely on the melodic rocker "Breakout." At a time when synthesizers dominated the pop landscape, Bon Jovi used them to gloss a heavy-rock foundation. "Come Back" shows the enormity of the charisma and emotion that Jon poured into his singing. BON JOVI is a great debut by a band in its underground, formative stage; a street album from a band hungry to make it.
This Left Feels Right: Greatest Hits With a Twist by Bon Jovi (Cassette - 11/04/2003)
"This Left Feels Right: Greatest Hits With a Twist" (11/04/2003) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, Island Records (USA)Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals); Richie Sambora (guitar, background vocals); David Bryan (keyboards); Tico Torres (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Olivia d'Abo (vocals); Hugh McDonald (bass). Producers: Pat Leonard, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora. Includes liner notes by David Wild. Conceived during the Japanese leg of the BOUNCE tour, THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT went from mere acoustic re-workings of Bon Jovi hits to an entirely restructured approach, aided by producer Patrick Leonard and turned around in a mere 23 days. The results are a dozen songs literally reborn as practically brand new compositions, thanks to the use of some unique arrangements. "Livin' On a Prayer" gets basted with ethereal keyboard washes by David Bryan, while Leonard's actress wife, Olivia d'Abo, hops aboard and turns the song into a heartfelt duet. Plugged-in anthem "Keep the Faith" gets a nice twist, as its hard-pounding tempo is cast aside in favor of a subtle and soulful delivery, while Tico Torres' time keeping and the band's overall approach to "Wanted Dead or Alive" make it sound like a LED ZEPPELIN III outtake. Richie Sambora's deft wielding of his acoustic guitar can't be praised enough, particularly on "You Give Love a Bad Name," where his sharp slide playing makes it sound like an offshoot of Eric Clapton's UNPLUGGED version of "Layla." THIS LEFT FEELS RIGHT ends up turning what could have been a straightforward moneymaking venture into something special.
Bounce by Bon Jovi (Cassette - 10/08/2002)
"Bounce" (10/08/2002) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, Island Records (USA)Bon Jovi: Jon Bon Jovi (vocals); Richie Sambora (guitar, background vocals); David Bryan (keyboards); Hugh McDonald (bass); Tico Torres (drums, percussion). Recorded at Sanctuary Sound II, New Jersey. Additional personnel: Jerry Cohen, Andreas Carlsson, Samuel Waermo. Producers: Luke Ebbin, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Desmond Child, Andreas Carlsson. "Misunderstood" was nominated for the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. While Jon Bon Jovi may not have much in common with the modern-day cowboys he writes of in his better-known songs, he and the band that bears his name are clearly the Comeback Kids. The mid-to-late-'90s found the band releasing lackluster fare, while 2002's BOUNCE brought Bon Jovi out of their slump. The album opens with pop metal bombast of a kind not heard since 1992's KEEP THE FAITH, as the band acknowledges the events of September 11th in "Undivided" and "Everyday." The crunchy, razor-sharp guitar playing and production on BOUNCE shines considerable light on Richie Sambora, who's playing gives any of today's newbie axemen a run for their money (especially on "Hook Me Up."). Building on that contemporary edge are collaborations with Andreas Carlsson (N Sync, Celion Dion) and longtime contributor Desmond Child. "Joey" is quintessential Bon Jovi storytelling, while "All About Loving You" and "Right Side Of Wrong" weigh in as requisite rock ballads.

"Cross Road: 14 Classic Grooves" (10/18/1994) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, MercuryProducers include: Bruce Fairbairn, Bob Rock, Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, Lance Quinn. Bon Jovi finally offers CROSS ROAD, a collection of their best songs plus two recent compositions and a new version of a classic. Fans and first-timers alike will delight in and sing along with this choice blend of hard pop and edgy anthems. "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night" and "Always" continue the Bon Jovi tradition of gritty love songs and rock poetry. Jon Bon Jovi's coarse yet smoothe vocals reach out and paint images of characters caught in an American scenic painting, "gotta live my life like I ain't got nothin' but this roll of the dice" Jon Bon Jovi claims in one song. With "Prayer '94" the band offers a toned-down version of "Livin' On A Prayer" which through its subdued, semi-acoustic demeanor achieves an intensity not found in the original. CROSS ROAD reminds us why Bon Jovi is such a successful band. Solid songwriting, excellent production and a killer sound will keep this band on the charts.

After selling more than 12 million copies of SLIPPERY WHEN WET (and becoming the light-metal champions of the decade), Bon Jovi took its "Wanted Dead Or Alive" rock n' roll cowboy theme to the next level on NEW JERSEY. The album was produced by Bruce Fairbairn and engineered by Bob Rock-two masters when it comes to maximizing a band's sound. Pledging allegiance to the band's home state, NEW JERSEY reeks of attitude, emotion, and the need to party. "Lay Your Hands On Me" is a venerable cock-rock anthem, while the hooks and chorus of "Bad Medicine" 'continued the band's Top 10 streak. "Blood On Blood" tells the story of childhood friends who maintain their bond to the end. "99 In The Shade" provides the musical backdrop for a group of friends taking an impulsive July cruise to the nearest shoreline. NEW JERSEY closes with "Love For Sale," a drunken sing-along about romance gone sour. The album represents Bon Jovi at the band's creative peak. Like a dream meeting of Bruce Springsteen and Clint Eastwood (with some Guns N' Roses thrown in for good measure), NEW JERSEY maintains Bon Jovi's harder-edged early sound while elevating the band to superstar status.

Recorded at Little Mountain, Vancouver, British Columbia. All tracks have been digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (Summer 1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York). Bon Jovi took a few faltering steps with their promising self-titled debut album and its shoddy 7800 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT follow-up. However, it was with this third record, a mixture of New Jersey storytelling and songwriter/collaborator Desmond Child's keen awareness of commercial appeal, that the perfect equation of songs and suss was established. The almost noble "Wanted Dead Or Alive" spawned a thousand copycat monochrome, on-the-road videos, while the sure-fire snap of "Livin' On A Prayer" and "You Give Love A Bad Name" simply elevated the banner much higher.

When Jon Bon Jovi went into the studio to record his band's seventh studio album, he went from budding actor to Jersey rocker to remind the world where his bread-and-butter was. After the initial plan to team up hard-rock production gods Bob Rock and Bruce Fairbairn fell through due to the latter's death, an audition process was set up with alt-rock engineer Luke Ebbin (Splender) winning the job. The choice was a fortuitous one as here Bon Jovi updates its sound with a smattering of loops and impressive arrangements, without losing the pop crunch of its heyday. Along the way, Bon Jovi tips its collective hat to the teen brigade invading the charts and the glory days of "Livin' On a Prayer" (the talk-box laden, Max Martin co-written single "It's My Life"), while still writing songs about blue-collar characters full of optimism (the Springsteen-flavored "Two Story Town"). CRUSH also contains the requisite power ballads for Bon Jovi's starry-eyed female fans ("Thank You for Loving Me," "Save the World") along with glam (the Elton John-inspired "Captain Crash & The Beauty Queen From Mars") and grimy ("One Wild Night") rockers.

"Keep the Faith [Remaster]" (10/05/1998) Heavy Metal Bon Jovi, Mercury Records (Germany)Digitally remastered German version features a CD-ROM video of "Keep The Faith." This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
