The sound of this system is adequate - especially for the compact form factor. I read many reviews about problems with crashing but didn't have any problem with this for 5 months. In the last 4 weeks, the system has started to crash repeatedly. Many times, I can't get my DVD out without restarting >10 times. I hear the DVD spinning even when the system is supposed to be off. Some people say they can't play 1/5 DVDs. Well, it's more like 80% of my DVDs! I put them in my other system and they play flawlessly. This system has ruined my perception of Bose. It's poor quality with horrible support (they refuse to fix this fatal problem). I will never buy from them again - and I would never recommend this system to anyone.
  • Pros: Good sound in a compact system
  • Cons: Horrible performance with increasing number of crashes

I've had my Bose 321 for about 1 1/2 years now and I wish I never would have bought it. The system will not play alot of my DVD's. I've even had where I've wanted to just listen to the radio and I would have to completely unplug it and let it sit for a few seconds then plug it back in for it to work. If I would have known this system was going to be faulty I wouldnt have spent 1,000.00 on it. Another complaint is that the speaker wires are not long enough and I cant place them where I want them and you cannot buy other wires for them because bose doesnt make them any longer for this system and other wires dont fit the outlets.

I have had my Bose 321 for 2 years now. At the beginning, I found the system to be very clear in the sound. I was very impressed with how compact it was & how easy it was to use. The freezing did not happen too often & I let it pass.. Now, I find that the system does not read all DVDs. I have a problem with recordable ones especially. It is a good thing there is more than one DVD in the house. I even find seeking radio stations can freeze the system. This is such a nuisance since I have to unplug the system to reset it everytime!!!!!! The the amount of money I paid this should not happen!!!!!
Furthermore, I regestered online to Bose in order to get the disc for updates, I have never once received any.
  • Pros: Good sound, clear, compact & easy to use
  • Cons: freezes a lot

I dont see why so many people complain about this system. My guess is they are Bose haters... You know Bose is a huge company like Microsoft, and with being big and recognized comes having lots of lovers and lots of haters. All Bose prodcts are great to me. Yes maybe some look way too pricey, but to say the truth you ALWAYS get your money back and if something is not right with what you buy you can always get an exchange or return your product to the Bose Store within 30 days, and if it breaks after that then you have between 1 and 5 years of warranty depending on what Bose producty you purchase. Bose is one of the greatest companies in customer support and I know they will NEVER leave your product faulty. Trust me, I had a problem with a Companion 3 and some older speakers and I have them here working perfectly.(Yes I am a Bose Fan, I love Bose). Bose concentrates on making sound, sound real, clear and lifelike and thats something no other company does.(Others just either care of giving you a lot of volume, a lot of treble, a lot of bass, buttons like crazy.. Bose gives you a balance of everything, making the best sound. Learn to distinguish between fake sound and real sound.) Anyway, enough Bose Corp. Talk.

Time for the 321... this system is the only one of its kind.. I have yet to find another system that makes FULL surround sound with just 2 speakers and a bass module. Voices and dialogue are centered like if a speaker was there, surround effects sound far, clear and spacious to the sides and behind you(many times it feels like speakers were placed behind you), and front effects sound amazing too. The lows are there, very deep. The bass module shakes your room too much or sounds too deep? Then aim the port away from the wall. You know, its all in the manuals. Its sad to read reviews saying things that are solved in the manuals or by calling Bose Corp. It just shows how people are.. well lets not insult anyone. This system is super easy to connect, and with me.. Ive had no problems. I know other people that own this system and they love it and have none of the problems a lot of people mention here. The volume goes to insanely lou volume levels, I dont see how some people can say it doesnt go loud enough or cant handle loud levels.. 75 is more than enough, 80 at the most. Theres no need to go louder unless you are deaf... and the bass goes all the way up, it doesnt stay behind. The sound is completely destorsion-free, super spacious, surroundish and clear. You dont like the 321? Well you need help.. but anyway for now try the 321GS. You dont like the 321GS? Well what can I do? You seriously need help in distinguishing quality sound from fake sound. Bose is a great American Company.. the most respected(and hated too) name in sound. I love Bose, and I always will. I trust Bose in every way. I am only 16, and I know Ill have Bose ALL around my house.
  • Pros: GREAT Sound, Simplicity, No Distorsion, Compact, Powerful
  • Cons: I have found none.. except I payed $1000 and now it is $900

Even tho there were *many* glitches with the 3-2-1 system, if you call BOSE and ***** them out about it, they will send you an update software CD.....and continue to send them when there are updates. They even have sent me free Blockbuster passes, for my time/trouble.
I took the 1st unit back to the store where I bought it. They gave me a completely new unit. Well it did the same thing. There was another receiver on the counter (which had described some of the same probs I had had)
Contacting BOSE, they sent out a new update CD.
Mind you, these units are made in Mexico.....LOL.
I have had NO problems with my 321 unit since.
    Things that occured:
    Volumn not goin past 80.
    Freezing up.
    Not ejecting CD/DVD.
    Not turning on or off.
And some others, but I have forgotten them, since the unit has been working fine for the last years.
3 words for yas: GET A BOSE!!!!!!!!!
  • Pros: Surround sound in 2 speakers, small unit/space
  • Cons: The glitches (now fixed thru BOSE software)

there's nothing surround sounding about this over priced piece of garbage. You have to turn the volume up to 80 (out of 100) to hear a thing, it either responds to sensitively and whips through the menus, or doesn't respond at all , when it rarely works, the sound is terrible. I think this item should have been recalled before Firestone tires.
  • Pros: none
  • Cons: everything about it.
