This collection of chilling horror movies includes the following films: AMITYVILLE 3-D: Skeptical journalist John Baxter (Tony Roberts) and photographer Melanie (Candy Clark) expose a fraudulent medium who is operating in the infamous Amityville haunted house. Then John surprises Melanie by deciding to buy the house and live in it. John's estranged wife, Nancy (Tess Harper), is also surprised, then disturbed, when John encourages their daughter, Susan (Lori Loughlin), to visit. The house attacks visitors with horrors that include insects and extreme cold and heat. Eventually, parapsychologist Eliot West (Robert Joy) comes to investigate. THE AMITYVILLE HORROR: A real-life haunted house becomes a frontpage story in this tale of a family whose Long Island dream home becomes an oozing, horrific nightmare. The brutal murder of six people just one year previous causes the new tenants some restless nights, to say the least! Based on the "non-fiction" book by Jay Anson. Academy Award nominations: Best Original Score. AMITYVILLE 2 - THE POSSESSION: This gory prequel is loosely based on the case of the DeFeo murders, which took place in the famed house in Ocean Avenue before the Lutz's, whose tale was told in THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, moved in. When The Montellis, an Italian-American family, move into the not-yet notorious home, it's not long before rebellious teenage son Sonny (JACK MAGNER) takes to seducing his sister (Diane Franklin, THE LAST AMERICAN VIRGIN, BETTER OFF DEAD) and slaughtering the entire family. Investigation by the authorities points to the boy's demonic possession, which is later evidenced by a grisly EXORCIST-inspired physical transformation. Screenwriter Tommy Lee Wallace is a frequent collaborator of John Carpenter.

The prehistoric winged slime ball known as the Creeper is back for seconds in JEEPERS CREEPERS II, on an all-you-can-eat binge before hibernating for another 23 years. His first victim is local farm boy Billy Taggert (Shaun Fleming), whose shocked father Jack (wild-eyed Ray Wise) watches, uncomprehending, as his son disappears amidst violently rustling corn husks. The monomaniacal Taggert scours the surrounding area for clues, but the Creeper (Jonathan Breck) has moved onto its next target: a school bus full of basketball players. As jocks Jake Spencer (John Hammond) and Scott Braddock (Eric Nenninger) torment gay high school journalist Izzy Bohen (Travis Schiffner) and clairvoyant cheerleader Minxie Hayes (Nicki Lynn Aycox), the Creeper watches. When the bus breaks down on East 9 Highway, the Creeper pounces, employing supernatural olfactory powers to sniff out the morsels that suit his rather finicky tastes. Token nerd Bucky (Billy Aaron Brown) gets a radio signal over to Taggert, the bereaving dad who is now hellbent on revenge and is carrying the one weapon that may be a match for the evil Creeper. Like the original JEEPERS CREEPERS, director Victor Salva's sequel is several cuts above average horror fare. The director has a demonstrated affinity for classic filmmaking and makes frequent references to THE BIRDS, bringing Hitchcock's quiet dread to a no-holds-barred, adrenaline-boosting horror film modeled after the FRIDAY THE 13TH, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and SCREAM series.

Neil LaBute's THE WICKER MAN stars Nicholas Cage as Edward Malus, a policeman thrust into some dangerous detective work by a series of strange events that begin with a horrific car crash. This incident leaves the cop haunted, with images of the accident replaying in his heavily medicated mind. Edward's hiatus from work is interrupted when he receives a mysterious letter from his ex-fiancé, pleading with him to help find her missing daughter, Rowan. Against his better judgment, Edward travels to the remote, privately owned island of Summerisle, home to a close-knit, secretive community with a clear dislike for outsiders. Considering Edward an intruder, the Sisters of Summerisle offer little information regarding the missing girl. Edward is at a loss, finding even his ex-love Willow to be little help. With vacant eyes and a strange, listless way about her, Willow should be the first of many red flags to send Edward running. But in firm horror-movie tradition, the seasoned cop throws caution to the winds, staying in the place longer than seems smart. This 2006 remake veers away from the 1973 film in several key ways. For one, it replaces the original's eerily upbeat folk soundtrack with a tasteful Angelo Badalamenti score. With a mild PG-13 rating, the 2006 version is relatively tame compared to the original. While the 1973 film freely mixed pornographic elements with horror themes and musical numbers, the new film confines itself to horror, abandoning that strange mixture of genres that made Anthony Shaffer's film a cult classic. While LaBute's film adds a back-story and romantic interest, it requires equal suspension of disbelief. Despite their differences, both films end in the same disturbing way, leaving an indelible image that may haunt viewers long after the credits roll.

Based on Lars Von Trier's miniseries entitled RIGET, Stephen King's 15-hour drama is a hospital-bound ghost story that follows the more or less eccentric inhabitants of Kingdom Hospital. Built on the same land where a mill burned down during the Civil War, the hospital is exhibiting numerous signs of paranormal activity. At night, children can be heard screaming in pain, while the near-resident hypochondriac and psychic, Mrs. Druse (Diane Ladd, ALICE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE, WILD AT HEART), is certain that something is amiss. As the series unfolds, patients and doctors alike become increasingly convinced of the impinging presence of the supernatural, with more and more people experiencing terrifying encounters. In this installment, Mrs. Druse and Dr. Hook (Andrew McCarthy, PRETTY IN PINK) attempt contact with Mary's ghost by soliciting the aid of a dying patient, and a criminal on the lam hides out in the hospital. Meanwhile, an attorney admitted to Kingdom for a heart attack attempts to move himself to the top of the organ donor list. The dark-hearted Dr. Stegman (Bruce Davidson, HATE CRIMES) uses some unfortunate surgical techniques on a homeless patient, and later undergoes an unpleasant induction that sends him into the basement of the facility, where he finds that the horrors have only just begun.

Joan Crawford followed up her role in WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? with this full-bodied horror film from producer-director William Castle and writer Robert Bloch (PSYCHO). Crawford plays Lucy Harbon, who in the film's opening moments hacks her husband and his lover to pieces with an ax. Twenty years later, Lucy is let out of the asylum to live with her daughter, now played by Diane Baker. Unfortunately, the daughter lives on a farm replete with chicken, pigs...and axes--and before long it's not just the chickens that are losing their heads. Everything is surprisingly effective in this suspenseful film, but Crawford especially is a knockout. She acts whole pages of dialogue with a single pained glance, moving believably from touchingly vulnerable to homicidally enraged with ease. Also noteworthy is George Kennedy as a deranged farmhand and the ripely paranoid score from Van Alexander. Fans of Crawford and PSYCHO will want to do themselves the favor of checking out this inspired, delightfully grim little shocker.
