Microsoft Zune 8GB Red Review
by Eric Dahl, PC World
Review Verdict:
With wireless syncing, FM radio, and full video support, the 8GB Zune has a lot going for it. Unfortunately, unless you really want wireless syncing, it's not the best choice. If you're looking for lots of storage, the Sansa View has the Zune beat. If you

I got the 80gb Zune as a successor for my 30gb Zune which I was quite happy with. My first impressions of the 80gb were very good. It looked great and everything about it was perfect - or so I thought. After 3 months the glass covering the screen cracked. I wasn't even using the device when it happened, it just cracked. Since the Zune comes with a 1 year warranty, I tried calling customer support. The person I spoke with told me there was nothing he could do and that Microsoft does not service the front glass and that cosmetic damage is not covered by the warranty. I continued using the Zune until recently when, upon turning the Zune on, I was greeted with 'Screen 5 - Contact Support'. So that's exactly what I did. I called support and they told me that I could send the device in for repairs. They sent me a box and shipping label to send the Zune to their facility. However after two weeks of waiting, when I got my Zune back, there was a letter in the box with the Zune saying that because of the cracked glass they did not attempt to fix the 'Screen 5' error. I tried calling support again and once again they said there was nothing I could do. It did not matter two them that the cracked glass and the 'contact support' error were two completely separate incidents. After a while the person I was talking with stopped pay attention to me completely and said that I should find an third party repair shop because the warranty on the Zune was void because of the crack in the glass. I could not believe that I payed $250 for a product that didn't even last 1 year. I would not advise anyone else to get this product because there is an almost sure chance that they will be left stranded like me.
