Joan Allen narrates this documentary that chronicles the plight of Europe's greatest artistic treasures during the Nazi reign. For more than a decade, the Third Reich attempted to steal and obliterate the continent's culture, as the Nazi ideology led to the destruction of countless paintings. Meanwhile, art lovers worked to save as many pieces as they could to ensure the cultural legacy of their region would remain intact. THE RAPE OF EUROPA spans seven countries and six decades in its efforts to tell the stories of these devoted men and women and the precious pieces that survived because of their efforts.

Filmmaker Barry W. Blaustein takes a look at the professional wrestling game at every level, from the hopeful, perhaps deluded beginners who spend their money on wrestling schools, to the lower levels of the profession, to the pinnacle of wrestling success: national fame in the WWF. Particularly fascinating are Blaustein's examinations of Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Mick "Mankind" Foley. Roberts was once a superstar in the WWF, but evidently drugs and alcohol destroyed his career, and left him a broken and bitter man, wrestling on the outer reaches of the pro circuit. In a poignant scene, Blaustein captures a painful reunion between Roberts and his adult daughter. Foley, on the other hand, is a tremendous success in the WWF and a devoted husband and father. But the violence of his profession still threatens to tear his family apart. Blaustein makes no bones about his perspective in making his film. He's a wrestling fan. That said, the film offers an honest view of the outrageous and controversial world of professional wrestling. Though the outcomes of matches are usually predetermined making it a different kind of sport, pro wrestling is certainly a demanding and brutal way of life.

A surprise grassroots phenomenon, the Suicide Girls have seen their popularity soar in the last few years. This post-feminist version of a burlesque group features confidant, individualistic women with piercings, dyed hair, tattoos, and sexy but unique bodies. The brand began life as a website and a book, and has subsequently blossomed into a national tour; in 2004, when this program--part documentary and part live performance--was filmed, the group performed 60 shows in 45 cities, and sold out nearly all of them. There's no full nudity here, though some of the girls are just a few strips of tape or spoonfuls of chocolate syrup away, and in their thoughtful interviews the girls make it clear that, far from being exploited, they're in this to have fun and show off. Included here are segments on the founder, the charming and intelligent Missy Suicide, and on each of the girls, featuring photo shoots and footage of their strip shows along with their thoughts and interests. There's also a variety of excellent alternative music, which is almost as important an element of the tour as the titillating dance routines.

The hip-hop world produced one of its brightest stars when 50 Cent rose to fame in 2002. Consolidating his success with some catchy singles and huge-selling albums on Eminem's Shady label, 50 Cent also attracted plenty of controversy in his early career. This unauthorized documentary covers many of the incidents that generated that controversy, while also focusing on his pre-fame upbringing in a rundown neighborhood in Queens, New York. Although 50 himself does not appear, friends, family, and colleagues all unite to tell the remarkable tale.

Led by impresario Luke Campbell, rap group 2 Live Crew became ingrained in public consciousness when their extremely raunchy album AS NASTY AS THEY WANNA BE, became a symbol of the debate over censoring music. Now Tipper Gore's least favorite rappers have compiled their most popular music videos on this GREATEST HITS release. Nasty, sexy, explicit, pornographic--2 Live Crew are at their best (or according to some cultural conservatives, worst) on this compilation.

Director Christoph Green teams up with producer Brendan Canty (of punk rock figureheads Fugazi) for the fascinating BURN TO SHINE series. The premise for these films is simple yet ingenious: Green and Canty travel to a city, locate some houses that are soon to be demolished, then have a unique last-rites-style ceremony for the buildings by getting local independently minded musicians to perform in them. This first installment takes place in Washington, D.C., and includes performances by Bob Mould, Ted Leo, the Evens, Weird War, Q and Not U, Garland of Hours, Medications, and French Toast.

This NBC Christmas television special featuring Harry Connick, Jr. was shot in October 2003 in the Bowery Savings Building on 42nd Street, New York City. The jazz singer/pianist hosts comedians Nathan Lane and Whoopi Goldberg and singers Marc Anthony and Kim Burrell for an old-fashioned evening of music and sketches, with imaginative jazz arrangements for many of the songs, which include "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Frosty the Snowman," "Baby, It's Cold Outside," "Nature Boy," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "Auld Lang Syne," "Blue Christmas," "Mary's Little Boy Child," "Silver Bells," "I Wonder As I Wander," "The Happy Elf," "I'm Gonna Be the First One," "The Christmas Waltz," "Nothin' New for New Year," "O Little Town of Bethlehem," and "(It Must Have Been) Ol' Santa Claus." Lane and Goldberg each perform in comedy sketches and all three singers collaborate on a novel version of "Silent Night."
