Basic. That's the best word to describe Panasonic's RQ-P35. It's a cassette-only machine sporting a limited but functional feature set. The auto-stop mechanism will prevent the motor from frying when the end of a tape is reached, and XBS bass enhancement circuitry will deliver enough low end to keep you bouncing along. It does have fast-forward and rewind, whereas some budget models by other companies only have fast-forward (hard to believe but true).

If you're looking for a little more from a budget portable, check out the RQ-V75 ($24.95 list). It's a cassette player with an AM/FM tuner.
