After deciding that I wanted a moderately priced ($500 to $900) printer with archival quality pigment-based inks, I compared the Canon Pro9500 with the Epson R2400 & HP B9180. The print quality of all 3 is spectacular - but so close really, I had to look to other factors to make a decision. I finally settled on the Canon - 1st, because of operating costs: since the pigmented inks are expensive and large format prints require a lot of ink, I evaluated cost of cartridges, ml size & number of cartridges required and the Canon was best…2nd, pigmented inks must be shaken up regularly and the Canon shakes the ink for you when you are ready for it to be shaken - a great advantage since you can unplug the printer when it isn't in use and then when you're ready to print simply hit one button to shake up the ink…3rd, the Epson wasn't designed to hold both matte black and glossy black ink tanks at the same time.
