Lexmark's Optra S series laser printers are designed to handle the pace and performance requirements of workgroup printing. The Optra S 1855 has the speed and features for today's printing needs, and can be upgraded when needs and user numbers grow. The Optra S 1855 has a speedy 18 page-per-minute monochrome output, 1200 dpi resolution, and it's ready to print in 10 seconds. It will print labels, transparencies, envelopes, card stock and letterhead. It accepts up to legal-sized paper, and comes with one 250-sheet and one 100-sheet multipurpose feeder. Optional 250-, 500- and 2,000-sheet paper trays are available. The output tray holds 250 sheets and has a sensor that indicates when it is full. The included black toner cartridge yields up to 7500 pages. The printer has a 65,000-page / month duty cycle. This sturdy printer has a LCD information display for printer instructions and status. Collated output prints are accessible from the front, and trays and toner are easy to reach for loading and replacement. The Optra S 1855 is powered by a 133 MHz NEC 4300-133 RISC processor and comes with 4 MB memory, which can be upgraded to 132 MB with optional SIMMs. A 2.1 GB hard drive option is also available. It is compatible with PostScript Level 2 and PCL 5e emulation with SmartSwitch printer language sensing. A wide font selection is offered, with 75 PostScript fonts, 75 PCL scalable fonts and 2 PCL bitmapped fonts to choose from. The included font management utility has additional 110 fonts. This printer uses a high-speed bi-directional parallel port interface and includes two PCI-based internal solutions ports. These ports are ready for options such as a tri-port adapter, MarkNet S internal network adapter, coax/twinax adapter for SCS and a hard disk. These network options are available for upgrades. The MarkVision printer management utility automatically integrates into network management applications for HP OpenView, Novell ManageWise and more. This utility supports Windows 3.x/95, Windows NT 4.0, OS/2 Warp, Mac OS and UNIX.
