the dehumidifier I ordered would not turn on none of the controls worked at all it did not appear damage but it was obviously a defective product

I used the dehumidifier immediately. That night and part of the next day, the unit removed 2 gallons of water from the interior of my small one bedroom apartment. I am so excited to have the fabrics in my apartment feel dry rather than wet! Thanks.
