It offers the built-in decoding as well as the upgradability afforded by a battery of input jacks. Denon has provided for music as well as home-theater listening. A mode paradoxically termed "5-channel stereo" provides music through your fronts and surrounds -- even mixing left and right and guiding it through the center channel. You'll find a gaggle of inputs and outputs around back, including a moving-magnet phono jack for vinyl.
