Burnin Hot [PA] * by Shawnie Ranx (CD - 08/29/2006)
Description:
Hotshot Ultramix by Shaggy (CD - 02/12/2002)
"Hotshot Ultramix" (02/12/2002) Reggae Shaggy, MCA Records (USA)Personnel includes: Shaggy, Ricardo "Rik Roc" Ducent, The Kraft, Robin, Brian & Tony Gold, Nucci Rey, Wiz Dinero, Pee Wee, Prince Mydas. Among the many peaks and valleys international reggae/pop superstar Shaggy experienced in the '90s was having to rebound from being dropped by Virgin Records following a run of worldwide smash singles. Following a widely successful comeback with MCA via 2000's HOTSHOT, the multi-talented Jamaican returned with the dancehall-oriented HOTSHOT ULTRAMIX. The 12 songs featured on this groove-driven outing cover Shaggy's most recent work, and are highlighted by a pair of remixes for his big hit "It Wasn't Me". The Cartel Mix is given a hip-hop spin by rhyme merchants Ricardo "Rik Rok" Ducent, Nucci Rey O, and Wiz Dinero while the Punch Mix cleaves more closely to the original. Throughout, Shaggy's various musical tastes are amply displayed. Muted trumpet and subtle jazz nuances give the Players Mix of "Chica Bonita" a smooth flow while a seamless sample of "Shake Your Body Down To The Ground" defines the infectious "Dance & Shout". Elsewhere, unobtrusive string arrangements enhance Shaggy's duet with Robin on the scintillating "Too Hot To Handle" before this set wraps up with a live version of "Angel", Shaggy's smash fusion of Chip Taylor's "Angel Of The Morning" and Steve Miller's "The Joker" featuring longtime running buddy Rayvon.

GRAMMY winning reggae superstar Shaggy delivers another hit-stacked album with HOTSHOT. The album incorporates a mix of styles and songwriting textures, from the singer's customary super party vibe to the more mellow qualities of songs such as "Why Me Lord," "Keepin' it Real," and "Hope," the latter of which was featured in the Kevin Costner movie FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME. For those fans who need some Shaggy to get down with in the clubs, HOTSHOT has such potential dance floor smashes as "Dance & Shout," which lifts the chorus from the classic Jackson 5 hit "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)." Another highlight is "Angel," based on Chip Taylor's classic '60s song "Angel of the Morning," where Shaggy inventively incorporates a funky guitar sample from Steve Miller's "The Joker." HOTSHOT also includes an updated version of the Shaggy classic "Luv Me, Luv Me."
