The truth is, the 1980s come off looking pretty good--musically speaking--within the bounds of this compilation. Alongside the obligatory feel-good anthems such as Joey Scarbury's "Theme from 'Greatest American Hero' (Believe It or Not)" and Bobby McFerrin's irrepressible "Don't Worry Be Happy," there is a fine sampling of New Wave-influenced sounds. The Vapor's enigmatic "Turning Japanese" still packs a punch, as do "Our House," Madness's kooky masterpiece, and the Waitresses' jerky "Square Pegs." Solid grooves are not overlooked on INXS's "New Sensation" and the B-52's "Love Shack," but the disc's highlights have to be Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" and 'Til Tuesday's truly beautiful "Voices Carry" (superb songs in any decade).
