Description:
"Myspace Records Vol. 1" (11/15/2005) Rock & Pop Various Artists, Myspace RecordsPerformers include: AFI, The All-American Rejects, Dashboard Confessional, Fall Out Boy, Rivers Cuomo. An audio companion to the Myspace online networking site, this 2005 compilation presents songs by internet-savvy emo-rock acts such as Dashboard Confessional and Fall Out Boy. Weezer appears as the elder act of this set with its anthem "We Are All on Drugs," while lesser-known bands, including the piano-happy Waking Ashland and the power-chord-loving Jupiter Sunrise, also contribute songs. Of particular note are the previously unreleased tracks on offer here, including AFI's dark, driving "Rabbits Are Roadkill on Rt. 37," New Years Day's melodic "Ready, Aim, Misfire," and Tila Tequila's furious "Straight Up" (featuring Last of the Famous's Daniel Larsson).

Filthy Lucre Live by The Sex Pistols (CD - 07/30/1996)
"Filthy Lucre Live" (07/30/1996) Rock & Pop Sex Pistols (The), Virgin Records (USA)The Sex Pistols: Johnny Rotten (vocals); Steve Jones (guitar); Glen Matlock (bass); Paul Cook (drums). Recorded live at Finsbury Park, London, England in June 1996. With the punk-rock seeds they sowed 20 years earlier finally bursting into the mainstream, the Sex Pistols return to cash in. We don't mean that as a knock; we're quite sure, in fact, that's exactly what the Pistols themselves would tell you if you asked. And besides, this document of their 1996 London show (released barely a month after the actual gig) finds the Pistols' original intensity undiminished. Playing all the songs that made them infamous, Johnny Rotten (nee Lydon) and company actually sound more aggressive and driving than they did in their '70s heyday. They're a million miles (and a few singing lessons) from the Las Vegas punk nostalgia act some feared. On classics like "Holidays In The Sun", "Pretty Vacant" and "Anarchy In The UK," the Pistols lay it down with an authority that leaves no doubt as to the authenticity of their reunion. Fans of modern-day punks such as Rancid, Green Day and Offspring will instantly recognize the roots of their heroes in this collection of seminal punk played with all the spirit one could hope for.

"Catalog CD Album Box [Box] [Limited]" (03/15/2005) Rock & Pop Eagles (Rock) (The), Asylum (USA)The Eagles (Rock): Don Felder (vocals, guitar, slide guitar); Bernie Leadon (vocals, guitar, steel guitar, banjo, mandolin); Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Randy Meisner, Timothy B. Schmit (vocals, bass guitar); Don Henley (vocals, drums, percussion). Additional personnel: J. D. Recording information: Santa Monica, California; Los Angeles, California; Criteria Studio, Miami, Florida (1972 - 1980). Ensembles: The Royal Martian Orchestra; The Clapetts; The Monstertones. Housed in a simple, dark-gray box embossed with the band's name and a limited-edition number, this minimal-yet-handsome set contains all of the Eagles' albums between 1972's EAGLES and 1980's LIVE, remastered and encased in perfect miniature reproductions of the original LP sleeves. Although there are no outtakes, alternate mixes, or B-sides to spoil the unity of the albums, collectors should note the inclusion of a ninth bonus disc, containing both tracks of the band's rare 1978 Christmas single. Taken as a whole, the box charts the Eagles' evolution, from the most accessible of the original country-rock groups (EAGLES, the classic concept album DESPERADO) to the kings of Los Angeles soft rock (ONE OF THESE NIGHTS, ON THE BORDER) to their late '70s pinnacle as one of the biggest bands in the world (their masterpiece, HOTEL CALIFORNIA, and THE LONG RUN). By presenting the albums as a whole, this easily supercedes the Eagles' previous compilations, which focused on the hit singles at the expense of equally impressive album tracks.
The Suicide Girls: Black Heart Retrospective by Various Artists (CD - 09/27/2005)
"The Suicide Girls: Black Heart Retrospective" (09/27/2005) Rock & Pop Various Artists, Epitaph Records (USA)Recording information: 1981 - 2005. Compiled by Skinny Puppy's Dave Ogilvie under the banner of the Suicide Girls' goth/punk pin-up site, BLACK HEART RETROSPECTIVE features his band's chaotic, sample-heavy "VX Gas Attack," along with other vintage goth tunes. Aside from the rather inexplicable inclusion of a hip-hop track by Atmosphere, the set consists of potent, gloomy rock, with some selections geared towards the dance floor (Ministry's classic "Every Day Is Halloween," Killing Joke's surging "Love Like Blood," Nitzer Ebb's hyper-aggressive "Murderous") and others best suited for bedroom brooding (the Cure's "One Hundred Years," Bauhaus's "She's in Parties"). Those seeking a bit of post-1980s goth rock will find it in the form of Alkaline Trio's spot-on cover of Sisters of Mercy's "Lucretia My Reflection" and Nine Inch Nails' industrial-strength dose of darkness, "The Wretched."
American Roulette by Danny O'Keefe (CD - 04/11/2006)
"American Roulette" (04/11/2006) Rock & Pop O'Keefe, Danny, Wounded Bird RecordsThough singer-songwriter Danny O'Keefe has had his songs covered by artists from Elvis Presley to Jackson Browne, his talents have never achieved widespread recognition. Dating from 1977, this smartly assembled, country-flavored collection shows just what the public has been missing over the past few decades. In a series of sharply observed, sophisticated vignettes, O'Keefe lays bare subjects from teen runaways to the opaqueness of relationships in songs like "On Discovering a Missing Person" and "You Look Just Like a Girl Again."
