Nikon's SuperCoolscan, also known as LS-1000, is a 35mm film scanner designed especially for professional desktop scanning applications. It can scan color or black and white negative and transparencies. SuperCoolscan incorporates Nikon's new high-power LED (light emitting diode) illumination technology. SuperCoolscan was developed to provide the fastest, high-resolution scanning at the upper-end of the low-cost 35mm film scanner market. In addition, SuperCoolscan is smaller and more economical to operate. It is quieter and easier to use even for the amateur computer enthusiast when compared with competing brands. These features allow many more users to experience the benefits of personal film scanning. In addition to being the fastest scanner in its class, the LS-1000 offers enhanced features over the LS-10 Coolscan, including 12-bit A/D conversion, Autofocus and an optional Autofeeder. The LS-3510AF and LS-4500AF are intended for use by more experienced scanner operators and offer full mechanical film rotation and other professional features. In combination with the AT-45 Transparency adapter, Scantouch makes an ideal low-cost 4 x 5 film scanner, yet it does not have sufficient resolution for significant enlargements from 35mm film. Thus, SuperCoolscan falls ideally between Coolscan, the LS-3510/4500AF and Scantouch in providing the right combination of features and performance.
