Based on Steven Gould's critically acclaimed novel, JUMPER leaps onto the screen courtesy of director Doug Liman. David (Hayden Christiansen) has inexplicably been given the power to teleport himself, or jump. He can jump into a bank vault, then to the top of the Sphinx, then back to his luxury Manhattan apartment. But despite all his power, he still misses his childhood love, Millie (Rachel Bilson, THE O.C.). When the opportunity arises, David jets off to Rome with Millie, but it's not all romance in the Italian city. David's unique abilities place him in the middle of a war between the jumpers and the paladins, a secretive group intent on hunting down the teleporters. Led by Roland (Samuel L. Jackson), the paladins track David and fellow jumper Griffin (Jamie Bell) across the world, and Millie may be caught in the crossfire. JUMPER moves as fast as its teleporting hero, condensing the novel into a slim, action-packed offering. The slick special effects and impressive locations are certainly on par with Liman's previous work in THE BOURNE IDENTITY and MR. AND MRS. SMITH, but JUMPER bears a closer resemblance to comic book adaptations. Like Spider-man and most other costume-clad protagonists with unearthly abilities, David grapples with his newfound talents. But unlike his tights-and-cape-wearing brethren, David doesn't use his ability for the greater good. Instead, it gets him piles of money and, perhaps, the girl he's been dreaming of since he was five years old. Though most action films are driven by the struggle between good and evil, JUMPER interestingly offers up a central character who lies somewhere in the middle. Slightly less ambiguous is the film's ending that leaves the option for a sequel completely open.

COP LAND: In the idyllic bedroom community of Garrison, New Jersey, a community of NYPD officers takes refuge away from the big city's troubles while still enjoying all the kickbacks, cover-ups, and mob-owned banking privileges from across the river. But the code of silence is tested when an off-duty, drunk rookie cop from their ranks wrongfully kills two black men and the local sheriff begins to investigate. COP LAND is an ambitious ensemble drama notable for eliciting a strong performance (and a 40-lb weight gain) from Sylvester Stallone. JUDGE DREDD: It is the 22nd century, and Mega City One (formerly known as New York City), replete with flying vehicles, armored lawmen, and 65 million citizens, has become a violent and anarchic land. As a result, the law enforcement consists of men known as judges, and each one serves as cop, judge, and occasionally executioner, allowed to mete out "justice" as he sees fit. The most elite and feared of these is the emotionless, snarling Judge Dredd (Sylvester Stallone). But when Dredd's clever, vile, vengeful archenemy Rico escapes from prison, he successfully frames Dredd for murder. With the judge, who has received a life sentence, out of his way, Rico begins a killing spree with judges as his special targets. But when Dredd escapes from prison and sets out to stop the deranged psycho, will a startling familial revelation about Rico affect his progress?

In this science fiction thriller, Rock Hudson tenderly portrays isolated scientist Dr. Paul Holliston, who gets involved doing experiments on a human fetuses and discovers a method to accelerate the process of the fetus growing into a mature adult in just a few days. Barbara Carrera is perfect as Victoria, his not so perfect, perfect looking instant adult female who is Holliston's first success along with a dog. And things only get worse once the "adult" fetus turns into a homicidal psycho and starts looking for a new formula to prevent her from aging any further. In a kind of contemporary science fiction thriller meets THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, director Ralph Nelson manages an effective blend of old and new plot elements. The plot driven screenplay is based on a story by Jack W. Thomas. Diane Ladd turns in a great supporting performance as Martha, Dr. Holliston's jealous housekeeper. The story wasn't filmed until ten years after its inception because producer's allegedly feared that its topic, misfortunes with growth hormones, was too provocative for audiences.

Science fiction from the 1950s-1970s is collected on CLASSICS FROM OUTER SPACE. This collection features a trio of significant films among the sampling of material that represents the standard of the period's genre offerings. VOYAGE TO THE PLANET OF THE PREHISTORIC WOMEN is considered a camp classic and was directed by a pseudonymous Peter Bogdanovich. EMBRYO stars Rock Hudson and is emblematic of the medical sci-fi, such as COMA or THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, that was prevalent in the '70s. ATTACK FROM SPACE is a Japanese super-hero film featuring Starman, and is a forerunner to ULTRAMAN and the POWER RANGERS. The other films rounding out the collection are the serial adaptation FLASH GORDON: ROCKETSHIP, PHANTOM FROM SPACE, KILLERS FROM SPACE, the Roger Corman produced NIGHT OF THE BLOOD BEAST, THE DAY THE SKY EXPLODED, and ASSIGNMENT: OUTER SPACE.
