THE FIRST SEASON: Christopher Eccleston (SHALLOW GRAVE, EXISTENZ) plays the ninth incarnation of DOCTOR WHO, as with U.K. pop starlet Billie Piper playing the part of his companion, Rose, the Doctor embarks on yet more far-flung and improbable adventures: traveling 5,000,000,000 years into the future as the Earth is about to be swallowed by the sun, escaping from a mysterious space-station where the contestants are trapped in demented versions of popular reality-TV shows, and facing an old and terrible menace, the Daleks. THE SECOND SEASON: The BBC continues in its successful quest to rebrand the iconic DOCTOR WHO franchise with this second series of 21st-century episodes. The kitschy sets of old have been discarded, and David Tennant takes over from Christopher Eccleston as the 10th incarnation of the Doctor. Former pop star Billie Piper remains at the Doctor's side, playing his assistant, Rose, and a vast array of villains and intergalactic troublemakers face them as they zip through the galaxy in the Tardis. This time out, Queen Victoria and the Cybermen come face to face with Tennant's Doctor, and longstanding fans of the show will be delighted to see the robotic dog K9 returning.

This William Hartnell-era episode of DOCTOR WHO finds the Doctor and his fellow travelers on-board the Tardis landing on an alien planet. They quickly discover that the friendly inhabitants of the planet, the Menoptra, are slowly being destroyed by a malevolent presence known as the Zarbis. The Zarbis are capturing the planet in a giant web, thereby killing off the Menoptra and creating a powerful force that won't allow the Doctor and his allies to leave. Together with the Menoptra the Doctor must figure out how to defeat the Zarbis before it's too late.

This collection includes "An Unearthly Child," the premiere episode of the Doctor Who adventure series. Here Doctor Who (William Hartnell) leads his young granddaughter and a pair of her teachers on a prehistoric quest for fire. Then, Doctor Who grapples with the Daleks for the first time in "The Daleks," an extended collection of seven episodes from the popular BBC series. Finally, in "The Edge of Destruction," the Tardis lands on a seemingly dead world and the Doctor becomes curious. While exploring the planet's empty city, Who and crew discover--to their horror--a deadly amount of radiation in the air, a mutant race of peaceable Thais, and the sinister Daleks who control the world for their own cruel advantage. Taking place entirely inside the Tardis, "The Edge of Destruction" features original Doctor William Hartnell in a terrifying story of sabotage. When the crew awaken after an explosion, they discover that the ship is barely running, and no on is sure what has happened.

David Tennent returns for another successful stint as the title character of DOCTOR WHO in this third series of the BBC's thoroughly modern updating of the classic sci-fi character. Sadly, the Doctor's former assistant Rose (Billie Piper) doesn't return, but he is joined by a new accomplice, Martha (Freema Agyeman), for this run of episodes. Among the highlights in the 13 installments featured here (one of which is the acclaimed Christmas special, "The Runaway Bride") are the return of the Doctor's arch nemesis, the Daleks; a trip to the moon; a journey aboard a space craft heading towards the sun; and a jaunt back to Elizabethan London. Each show contains the usual heady mix of wit and fear, and the series builds to a tense climax as another formidable foe from the Doctor's past, the Master, makes an appearance.
