The glory days of porn are invoked in this anthology from late-night cable TV program MIDNIGHT BLUE, where the most infamous starlets of the 1970s recreate and remember their best moments. Blonde Amazon Seka discusses the joys of women and facials, controversial feminist Annie Sprinkle explains female masturbation with common household objects, and the infamous Ivory Soap girl, Marilyn Chambers (BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR), shares her thoughts on sexual attitudes and the industry.

From 1974 to 2002, MIDNIGHT BLUE treated New Yorkers to a shocking array of porn and politics, assembled by the notorious publisher of SCREW MAGAZINE, Al Goldstein. SCREW was proudly tasteless, and lacking any artistry altogether, an unabashed catalogue of perversion and depravity; Goldstein took this aesthetic to the small screen. This collection of segments from the show provides an inside look at DEEP THROAT, the porn movie that changed the face of the industry, introducing the real legends of the film in a way not seen anywhere else. Interviews include one with Carol Connors, a bisexual porn queen known for her way with animals, who co-starred in the film and is now the mother of award-winning actress Thora Birch. Audiences will also hear from renowned porn star Harry Reems, who played Dr. Young in the film; his criminal indictment was notoriously scandalous, and was a catalyst for the battles against the FCC that continue today. Porn director Gerard Damiano makes an appearance, discussing the forced sale of his rights to the film, to its star Linda Lovelace's manager, boyfriend, and alleged abuser, Chuck Traynor. Shedding light on a seminal film whose true story has been debated since its release, this documentary is a fascinating portrait that shows a very different side of events; also included are the actual commercials that aired with the show, unabashedly advertising prostitutes, sex toys, and swinger clubs.

In the days before the Playboy Channel and sexed-up reality shows, there was MIDNIGHT BLUE, a cable-based program hosted by Al Goldstein, publisher of Screw magazine. MIDNIGHT BLUE ran from 1975-2002, and investigated sexuality, pornography, social codes, politics, and taboos. This collection focuses on the more bizarre side of the sex industry (and that's saying a lot), including prostituted canines, S&M clubs, and Tara Alexander's 83-man gangbang.

The so-called "Powers that Be" have quite often maintained a stranglehold on information which they do not believe should be available to the general public. These corporate, religious, or governmental organizations have their own best interests in mind, and use their considerable power to maintain the status quo. This series of investigations reveals some of the hidden secrets. "American Midnight" - The Iran/Contra affair stunned America with the depth of the conspiracy involved. This investigation focuses on the death of two high school students who witnessed an illicit narcotics transaction by a CIA operative. "H.A.A.R.P.: Holes in Heaven" - HAARP stands for High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Project, ostensibly to study and influence atmospheric changes. However, there are allegations that its effects range from ozone depletion to super weapons.

For the third part of his American Trilogy--following THE CIVIL WAR and BASEBALL--Ken Burns takes on the "that most American of art forms": jazz. The 10-part, 19-hour film begins with the music's roots in post-Civil War New Orleans and concludes roughly a century later. The story focuses not only on the personalities and events that helped define the music but also on the social and cultural climate in which they emerged, making KEN BURNS' JAZZ a film about more than just music. The final episode, A MASTERPIECE BY MIDNIGHT (1961-THE PRESENT), covers the music's evolution since 1960. More splintered than ever, jazz is no longer led by any single movement or individual. Armstrong and Ellington continue to pursue their art against the tides of change--Armstrong steadfastly keeping his course, Ellington expanding his already enormous range. But by the '70s, the lives of these two giants have come to an end. Meanwhile, John Coltrane follows a spritual quest through his music while Miles Davis ventures into the murky waters of fusion, the style that will come to dominate the '70s. A few holdouts remain--Dexter Gordon, Max Roach, and a few others--and on their heels comes a new generation in the 1980s, personified by young trumpeter Wynton Marsalis, who will inspire a renewed sense of tradition. Certainly the most controversial episode of the series, A MASTERPIECE BY MIDNIGHT compresses roughly 40 years of musical development into less than two hours--in stark contrast to the full three episodes devoted to the swing era (1929-1939). In the end, Ken Burns's series stands as the most comprehensive and ambitious film ever made about jazz, a must-see for any fan of music.
