Denon's TU-1500RD is the costliest of its two component tuners and includes all the features you could ask for in a high-end radio. It's set apart from its Denon sibling, the TU-280 ($275 list) by virtue of RDS (radio data system) compatibility.This radio-sent data stream allows identification and text display of incoming stations, songs, program type and useful info such as traffic announcements. The 13-character fluorescent dot matrix display can be read from across the room. Serious radio listeners will be happy to hear about the 4-stage variable capacitors to enhance accuracy, and a microprocessor to eliminate drift. Denon touts the 1500RD's low-impedance output circuit as theideal noise-reducing transfer to your preamp or integrated amp, such as the PMA-2000R. That receiver's remote can control the 1500RD, although the tuner doesn't come with its own remote.The 1500RD also includes auto scan to find and preset any FM station in your area. A rotary knob makes twisting through digital stations a snap, which is superior to many receivers' button-operated tuning.
