The Surestore DAT24i internal tape drive is designed to meet the backup needs of PC servers, workstations, and small multi-user systems. It stores up to 24GB of data on a single tape in just over three hours. The internal Surestore features up to 2MB per second transfer rate (with data compression) and has an internal head cleaner to reduce clogging. It has a DDS-3 format providing high reliability, capacity and performance. It comes with HP Colorado Backup II software, which provides a complete solution for desktop systems running Windows 95/98 and Windows NT Workstation and Replica Backup software, which provides One Button Backup for servers running Windows NT or NetWare. The DAT24i also comes with HP TapeAssure, which guides you through the installation process and TapeAlert, which monitors the state of the drive and media and automatically notifies you when maintenance or media changes are required. The system features read-after-write data verification, a feed-forward equalizer and is rated for 300,000 MTBF (hrs). It is read/write compatible with DDS-1, DDS-2, DDS-3 tapes.

Weekly cleaning - one of the tasks most often omitted by smaller companies - is automatic (with appropriate backup application), so tape and drive life is extended. The inclusion of HP Tape Tools delivers a number of key advantages. Self-diagnosis of problems is made simpler - HP Tape Tools can distinguish between drive and media problems, for example; it facilitates technical support dialogs by automatically retrieving system information; and it enables automatic, online firmware upgrades. TapeAlert software monitors data integrity throughout the backup process.
