You won't be able to take your eyes off of it. The WXGA resolution picture on the PRO1130HD is absolutely stunning in every way. A lot of technology went into creating this great picture. One thing that makes is possible is a Crystal Emissive Layer between the plasma glass and the individual light cells. This is a big advance in plasma technology, allowing each cell to be charged and discharged three times faster than before, for greater light emission. So, blacks are blacker, yet the lighter areas on the screen still maintain their true brightness values and don't turn muddy or gray. Also improving detail is Pioneer's Advanced Continuous Emission (ACE) IV technology, which "smooths out" the visual steps between levels of color. With this enhancement, the panel can instantly identify the type of content shown on-screen (fast vs. slow motion scenes, dark vs. light scenes, etc.) and dynamically adjust the grayscale to create optimum detail. Pioneer's Active Dynamic Range Expander (DRE) improves contrast in the PRO1130HD. DRE constantly monitors the video signal and boosts white values only where needed -- not across the entire picture, as with some panels. So, you get accurate, consistent contrast values.

With a huge 64-inch screen, the SD-641-HD5 is the largest HDTV-ready rear-projection TV in Pioneer's regular (non-Elite) lineup. HDTV-ready means that this set requires an external set-top box to display high-definition TV signals.Unlike most other HDTV-ready TVs, the SD-641-HD5 offers two types of connections for set-top boxes: wideband component video and VGA/RGB. This allows you to select from a wider variety of HDTV tuners. The RGB input won't work with computers, but will work with some external processors.Like most large HDTVs, the SD-641-HD5 line-doubles interlaced NTSC (regular cable, satellite and DVD) to progressive scan (480p) in an effort to eliminate visible scan lines. Note, however, that the line doubler in this set is inferior to that in the company's Elite line of RPTVs. The SD-641-HD5 can natively display an input from a progressive-scan DVD player via its component video jacks.The SD-641-HD5 has a long list of manual adjustments. TIt relies on a 72-point convergence system to get an accurate picture from the 7-inch CRTs. Many of the dubious picture enhancements, such as flesh tone correction and Scan Velocity Modulation, can be manually defeated. You can choose from five color temperature settings as well as adjust the 3D-YC comb filter.The SD-641-HD5 offers an impressive number of viewing modes: Natural Wide, Zoom, Cinema Wide, Normal (4:3) and Full. Some HDTVs skip regular NTSC options, such as dual-tuner PIP (picture-in-picture), POP (picture-outside-picture) and multi-picture channel scan, but not the SD-641-HD5.
