Panasonic's PT-40LC12 is a widescreen multimedia projection monitor that can display HDTV or PC content along with standard definition TV signals. The 40-inch widescreen display uses LCD technology to deliver a crystal clear picture. The design is unusual, with the silver-framed display floating on two cylindrical legs as well as a center silver column above a gray base that houses twin stereo speakers and front panel inputs and controls. Because the screen is an LCD, the brightness is exceptional and the display is relatively thin and light, providing the option of mounting the monitor on the wall. The PT-40LC12 can display signals in 480p, 720p, or 1080i (with an HDTV receiver). The picture is excellent, with sharp contrast, true-to-life color, and well defined edges. A 3-D Y/C digital comb filter offers digital correction to the images and eliminates dot crawl. The audio system is up to the demands of home theater, with twin stereo speakers, simulated surround sound, and BBE High Definition. You can set the bass, treble, and balance according to the demands of your room and your preferences, or you can output to external speakers using the fixed audio output jacks. This set can accommodate VGA, SVGA, or XGA output from a computer, along with PC sound output, and you can even view the PC content in one of the picture-in-picture windows if you choose to do so. The PIP functions include split screen or PIP and resizing options for the PIP window, with dual NTSC tuners providing the option of displaying two live programs at once without the need for an additional device. Among the convenience features are a selectable 4:3 scan mode, video input skip, picture memory settings for video inputs, a programmable scan function, and rapid tune/recall for quickly returning to a previous channel. The A/V inputs, S-video inputs, a D-Sub15 RGB input, and component video inputs, along with a headphone jack will accommodate all your needs. The universal remote control has a disc controller, and it can be used to control your VCR, cable box, DVD player, stereo receiver, CD player and tape deck. The remote is especially well designed for night use, as all the buttons stay lit as long as you hold down the illumination button.
