Not only does it incorporate a 20-inch TV, but it also has a 4-head hi-fi stereo VCR and an FM radio built-in. The stand-out feature here is the wireless audio function, which uses a built-in FM transmitter to send the soundtrack of whatever show you're watching to other products with an FM receiver. You could, for instance, send signals to a Dolby Pro-Logic receiver to get surround sound, or you could send them to a headphone radio for watching TV without disturbing others in the area. The 4-head VCR will give you clearer stills and forward/reverse scan than a 2-head VCR can provide. And this deck's hi-fi stereo sound and MTS/SAP tuner make it suitable for use in a surround sound system. The VCR features VCR Plus+, which makes programming the deck for recording simple -- just enter the 4- to 7-digit code (found in your local TV listings) of the program you want to tape and the VCR will do the rest. The skip function spares you those annoying commercials and movie trailers on your tapes, blasting past them in 1-, 2- or 3-minute increments. And, for those viewers who tape one show every week, program end search will take you to the end of one episode and to the beginning of the next. Panasonic also includes various timers in the PV-C2080, such as a 30/60/90-minute sleep timer and a wake-up alarm. The latter enables you to wake, for instance, to your favorite movie or news program. The V-Chip should appeal to parents who'd rather not have their kids checking out objectionable programming. What's more, this TV/VCR combo has front-panel A/V inputs, which make connecting camcorders and other video equipment easier. Finally, you can operate this unit and almost all of your other home electronic components from the comfort of your couch, with a frosty libation in one hand and the multi-brand, illuminated remote control in the other.-- BN
