Pirates Of The Caribbean by Original Soundtrack (CD - 07/22/2003)
Description:
"Pirates Of The Caribbean" (07/22/2003) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Walt Disney RecordsOriginal score composed by Klaus Badelt. An adventure movie in the grand old style, albeit a modern one featuring the quirky talents of Johnny Depp, the 2003 film PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN seems tailor-made for a good old-fashioned orchestral film score. Fortunately, that's just what composer Klaus Badelt gives it. You'll find no pop-group promotional tie-ins here, just plenty of evocative mood music that captures the drama and panoramic vistas of this summer blockbuster.
Black Dog by Original Soundtrack (CD - 05/07/2005)
"Black Dog" (05/07/2005) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Decca (USA)Producers include: Mark Wright, Frank Liddell, Greg Droman, Peter Bunetta, Monty Byrom. Compilation producer: Frank Liddell. Engineers include: Greg Droman, John Guess, Ray Kennedy, Mike Bradley. Patrick Swayze's rugged visage on the front may dissuade those with unhappy memories of Dirty Dancing and Roadhouse, but fear not; as far as this album goes, he's strictly a cover boy. In actuality, the BLACK DOG soundtrack serves as a comprehensive compilation of contemporary country (how's that for alliteration?). Whether your tastes run toward pop-country sirens like Linda Davis and Lee Ann Womack, New Traditionalists like Randy Travis, or Nashville rebels Steve Earle, Jack Ingram and Chris Knight, you'll find something here to catch your ear. The theme linking these diverse artists is that evergreen Country character, the trucker. Like the film, this soundtrack centers around the trials and tribulations of the man behind the big rig.
Black Hawk Down by Original Soundtrack (CD - 01/15/2002)
"Black Hawk Down" (01/15/2002) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Decca (USA)Original score composed by Hans Zimmer. Includes liner notes by Daniel Schweiger. Hans Zimmer has a certain zest for meshing genres and cultures within his scores, and BLACK HAWK DOWN is a perfect example. Ostensibly following guidelines set by Jerry Goldsmith's THE 13TH WARRIOR, where traditional Arabic scales and tones were fused with a bold neo-Scandinavian ambiance, Zimmer employs similar tactics to enhance the theme of the film. He intensifies BLACK HAWK DOWN's clash of civilizations by taking traditional Middle Eastern musical themes and blending them with distinctly Western styles of pop, rock, and even country. In addition to the Goldsmith inspiration, nods to Peter Gabriel's PASSION are evident, especially when Zimmer adds Middle Eastern vocals to the score. However, the sonic tapestry he weaves from these influences and styles is coordinated so well that the proverbial stitches are rarely exposed.

Black Orpheus by Original Soundtrack/Antonio Carlos Jobim/Luiz Bonfa (CD - 01/23/1990)
"Black Orpheus" (01/23/1990) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Verve (USA)Original score composed by Luiz Bonfa and Antonio Carlos Jobim. On this landmark 1959 soundtrack, one can witness the actual birth of bossa nova as co-composers Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luis Bonfa first conceived it: against the backdrop of the authentic street samba from which it came. Following the film's story, the tracks vividly communicate the fragility (and necessity) of the softer, cooler style, as when Orfeu takes an advantage of a rare lull in the action to croon Jobim's "A Felicidade" or Bonfa's famous "Manha De Carnaval." Soon enough however, the ominously ever-present rhythms of Carnaval reassert themselves and swallow up this gentle music much as Death eventually steals Euridyce down to Hades. The soundtrack is also startling for its inclusion of the optical track from the film's opening credits, a raucous aural collage of samba and street noise that anticipates today's cut-and-paste aesthetic by 40 years. And if this mix of styles isn't enough, listeners are also treated to an accordion-led Forro version of Jobim's "O Nosso Amor," excerpts from an actual Macumba ceremony, and an orgy of Brazilian percussion that ends the recording.
Men in Black by Original Soundtrack (CD - 07/01/1997)
"Men in Black" (07/01/1997) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Columbia (USA)"Men In Black" won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. "Men In Black - Main Theme" was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition Written For A Motion Picture Or For Television. Starring Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith, MEN IN BLACK is a tongue-in-cheek science fiction epic that picks up where INDEPENDENCE DAY left off. Once again, Will Smith saves the planet from alien invaders, this time partnering up with the stoic-faced Jones. The former Fresh Prince makes use of his rap background on the film's soundtrack, contributing two cuts, including the title track. Everyone from A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul to Branford Marsalis' pop-funk project Buckshot Le Fonque appears here, but predictably, the star of the show is Snoop Doggy Dogg. His "We Just Wanna Party With You" incorporates the guest vocals of JD, a sample from Kool & The Gang's "Get Down On It" and Snoop's own inimitable rapping abilites to fine effect. Other avenues are explored by R&B-oriented acts like Trey Lorenz and Alicia Keys, and soundtrack music king Danny Elfman, who contributes the main and closing themes.

Black & White by Tony Joe White (CD) [IMPORT - Netherlands]
"Black & White" (11/11/1998) Soundtracks White, Tony Joe, Warner Elektra Atlantic Corp. (NethA shadowy figure in the country/rock world, White is best known as the composer of "Polk Salad Annie," which was famously covered by Elvis Presley, and "Willie And Laura Mae Jones," famously covered by Dusty Springfield. But he could more than hold his own as a performer, as witnessed by his 1969 debut.
Black and White [PA] by Original Soundtrack (CD - 03/28/2000)
"Black and White [PA]" (03/28/2000) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Loud (USA)Performers include: Raekwon, Xzibit, Jonathan Davis, Prodigy, Everlast, The X-Ecutioners, Big Pun, Kool G Rap, Dead Prez, LV, American Cream Team, Shorty, Mos Def. From the American Cream Team (yet another Wu-Tang offshoot), who produced two of the tracks, to an eerily familiar-sounding Stephen Marley (son of reggae legend Bob), BLACK AND WHITE is filled with as many stars as the movie itself. Loaded with radio-friendly tracks including "Dramacide," one of the last recorded tracks by Big Pun(isher) with Kool G Rap and X-ecutioners, it also features Everlast, Dead Prez, and the Ghetto Youth Crew. Rounding out this who's who on the Loud Records roster are Queen Pen with Joe Hooker on guitar and backing vocals; Dru Hill's LV, with an R&B slow jam reminiscent of The Stylistics, and the first single "Year 2000," by Xzibit featuring Jonathan Davis, frontman of Korn. This release is a cut above the run-of-the-mill hip-hop action adventure soundtrack.
