Old School Next Friday by Original Soundtrack (CD - 03/14/2000)
Description:
"Old School Next Friday" (03/14/2000) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Priority Records (USA)
Friday Night Lights by Original Soundtrack (CD - 10/12/2004)
"Friday Night Lights" (10/12/2004) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Hip-O RecordsRecording information: Bombfactory, Burbank, CA. While most sports-themed movies feature fist-pumping rock songs or energetic hip-hop tunes, the soundtrack for the poignant 2004 football drama Friday NIGHT LIGHTS consists largely of the delicate score composed and performed by the Texas-based indie-rock group Explosions in the Sky. Built primarily on resonant electric-guitar lines, these achingly beautiful instrumental tracks wonderfully complement the movie's drama, while recalling the Scottish post-rock band Mogwai (the wistful ebb-and-flow of "To West Texas") and DISINTEGRATION-era Cure (the gorgeous, string-laden version of "Your Hand in Mine").

Freaky Friday by Original Soundtrack (CD - 07/22/2003)
"Freaky Friday" (07/22/2003) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Hollywood RecordsThis is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Original score composed by Rolfe Kent. This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. The old adage about things staying the same the more they change is handily borne out by 2003's FREAKY FRIDAY, the remake of a 1976 film starring Jodie Foster where a young girl and her mother mysteriously change identities. A full generation down the road, Jodie Foster was old enough to play the mother, but the role was taken by Jamie Lee Curtis, and the daughter became rising actress/singer Lindsay Lohan. It's doubtful that there was a soundtrack to the original film, but in the age of pop music/film tie-ins, the new movie is filled to the brim with pop-punk by the likes of Simple Plan, American Hi-Fi, and the Donnas. A few old chestnuts, like the Turtles' "Happy Together" and the Romantics' "What I Like About You," are given a tough new sheen, Lohan makes her recording debut, and even the late punk king Joey Ramone gets represented, via a version of the Louis Armstrong hit "What a Wonderful World."
This is the best for teens, alot of names they're into. It's really great for partying, dancing, cleaning and listening in headphones.
Friday: 10th Anniversary Edition [PA] by Original Soundtrack (CD - 09/13/2005)
"Friday: 10th Anniversary Edition [PA]" (09/13/2005) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Priority Records (USA)Producers include: Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, N.O. Joe Johnson, DJ Pooh, Roger Troutman. Compilation producer: Ice Cube. Engineers include: Keston Wright, Tom Daughterty, Rick Freeman. Dr. Dre's "Keep Their Heads Ringin'" was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. Being both the writer and the star of FRIDAY has kept Ice Cube extremely busy of late, but with the help of both old school and new school artists, he has also produced one of the finest soundtracks to come down the pike in a long time. Performing the opening title track, Cube has closely aligned his movie with his music, and it's just such knowing collaborations between black filmmakers and the hip-hop community that has made soundtrack albums a prominent means for compiling suave collections of black music. Dr. Dre, undoubtably West Coast's finest, manages to "Keep Their Heads Ringin'" using his powerful vocals and spectacular G-Funk (with a little help from an old KRS-One sample) to transform any theater seat into the backseat of a jeep. Also along for the ride are fellow west coasters Cypress Hill--exercising their usual themes on "Roll It Up, Light It Up, Smoke It Up"--and their descendents, Funkdoobiest, who bring their ill style to life on "Superheroes." Slowing down the pace is the laid-back groove of Scarface's "Friday Night," complete with the smoothed-out flow of the former Geto Boy. There is also a sizable amount of old-school funk featured here: the Isley Brothers' "Tryin' To See Another Day," Rick James' "Mary Jane," Rose Royce's "I Wanna Get Next To You." Throwing such tunes into the overall soundtrack mix adds a distinct knowing flavor to the album, and makes it even more obvious that Ice Cube knows what he's up to even when he's not behind the mic.

Next Friday [PA] by Original Soundtrack (CD - 12/14/1999)
"Next Friday [PA]" (12/14/1999) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Priority Records (USA)Producers include: One Eye, Dr. Dre, Irv Gotti, Teddy Bishop, Babee Pall. Compilation producer: Ice Cube. After many years of anticipation, Ice Cube returns to the role of Craig Jones he made famous in the cult-classic film FRIDAY. The movie's soundtrack, NEXT FRIDAY, though not as varied a collection as the one that accompanied the first film, is still one of the finest hip-hop film soundtracks in years. NEXT FRIDAY's most important cut is the brutal "Chin Check," a song from the recently reunited West coast supergroup N.W.A. Featuring original members Ren, Dr. Dre, and Ice Cube, as well as Snoop Dogg (in place of the late Eazy E), "Chin Check" is a surprisingly good gangsta rap vignette, delivered just when people thought the genre had become passT. Pharoahe Monch's "Liven It Up," and Wu Tang Clan's "Shaolin Worldwide" represent the East Coast with intensity. An early track from Eminem called "Murder Murder" is another standout for its dynamic lyricism and spirited storytelling. NEXT FRIDAY manages to do more than just capture the spirit of the film--it offers fine music that can be appreciated on its own.

Even in the days when Ice Cube was dipping his toe into the cinematic pool by appearing in films like BOYZ IN DA HOOD, no one would have predicted that this hardcore gangsta rapper would be the driving force behind a beloved series of comedic films, but that's exactly how things turned out with the FRIDAY movies. This particular installment differs a bit from its predecessors. For one thing, the film sports a Christmas theme; for another, cutting edge hip-hop artists such as Nappy Roots and Westside Connection rub shoulders with artists of yesteryear. Brushing up against the Connection's celebratory "It's the Holidaze" and Krayzie Bone's upbeat narrative "Wonderful World" are the late R&B pioneer Donny Hathaway's seasonal groove "This Christmas" and vintage '70s funkateers Slave's classic "Slide."
