Home Alone by Original Soundtrack (CD - 12/04/1994)
Description:
"Home Alone" (12/04/1994) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Columbia (USA)
The Cider House Rules by Original Soundtrack (CD - 12/07/1999)
"The Cider House Rules" (12/07/1999) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Sony ClassicalOriginal score composed by Rachel Portman. THE CIDER HOUSE RULES was nominated for the 1999 Academy Awards For Best Original Score. THE CIDER HOUSE RULES was nominated for the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. Lasse Hallstrom's leisurely adaptation of John Irving's unconventional coming-of-age novel is so well crafted and well-acted that it's almost churlish to point out that it's easier to admire than actually like. Rachel Portman's orchestral score, however, requires no such qualification. It's a beautiful piece of rustic Americana, mostly arranged for strings and piano, and all very much of a piece--the various cues flow together seamlessly, as if they were all part of a larger suite. Fans of the film, however, may be disappointed to find that the various period recordings that comment on the action from time to time--songs by Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong, et al.--are not included here.
A Prairie Home Companion [5/23]
"A Prairie Home Companion" (05/23/2006) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, New Line RecordsRecording information: The Fitzgerald Theatre, St. Paul, Minnesota (2005). The soundtrack album to Robert Altman's 2006 movie centered around Garrison Keillor's popular public radio show is packed with all the homey, yet slightly twisted content of Keillor's original production--but augmenting the show's regular characters, we have hot Hollywood talent like Meryl Streep, Lily Tomlin, Lindsay Lohan, and Woody Harrelson performing songs like the sentimental "My Minnesota Home," the cowboy anthem "Whoop-I-Ti-Yi-Yo," and the blues classic "Frankie and Johnny." Streep and Tomlin acquit themselves particularly well, but understandably it's real-life regulars like Tim Russell, Robin and Linda Williams, and Keillor himself who steal the show.

House of 1000 Corpses [PA] by Original Soundtrack (CD - 04/01/2003)
"House of 1000 Corpses [PA]" (04/01/2003) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Geffen Records (USA)Original score composed by Rob Zombie and Scott Humphrey. One of those rare soundtracks that actually evokes a cinematic feel even if the listener hasn't seen the film in question, HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES is far more than simply a collection of tracks thrown together by the studio to make a few extra bucks. The disc naturally includes several songs from the movie's director, megastar shock-rocker Rob Zombie, all of which showcase his unique Alice Cooper-meets-Ministry-via-Dick Dale style to spectacularly sleazy effect. HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES also features several bits of dialogue that work perfectly as set-ups for the music (which runs the gamut from Buck Owens's double entendre-laden "Who's Gonna Mow Your Grass" to a hilarious Zombified version of the classic Commodores party jam "Brick House"), thus giving the record the feel of a bizzaro-world psychedelic '60s concept album. Like the film it accompanies, the HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES soundtrack is a fun, trippy, wild ride that instantly reveals its creator's true love for his medium.
Great album. Zombie has showed his stuff making the soundtrack and movie.
Sweet Home Alabama by Original Soundtrack (CD - 09/24/2002)
"Sweet Home Alabama" (09/24/2002) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Hollywood RecordsOriginal score composed by George Fenton. The soundtrack to this Reese Witherspoon flick is crammed with contemporary pop stars such as Jewel, Sheryl Crow and SheDaisy, and flavors of the moment such as Avril Lavigne and Uncle Kracker. Jewel's version of the Lynyrd Skynyrd title track is as creditable as you'd expect, while SheDaisy's hit "Mine All Mine" still sounds catchy even though it's no longer current. Avril Lavigne shows why she's the toast of teenage girls countrywide with her statement of intent "Falling Down" ("Someday I'll live in a house, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera/but you know that's not for now"), and the aforementioned Uncle Kracker sound suitably downhome with "To Think I Used to Love You." Of course no early '00s soundtrack would be complete without press darling Ryan Adams, whose upbeat shuffle "Gonna Make You Love Me" sticks in the brain long after it's made its exit. Sheryl Crow shows her range with Hank Williams's "Long Gone Lonesome Blues," and finally Dolly Parton brightens up the closing credits with her cheerful Appalachian "Marry Me," perhaps SWEET HOME ALABAMA's best track.

Big Momma's House by Original Soundtrack (CD - 05/30/2000)
"Big Momma's House" (05/30/2000) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, So So Def RecordingsProducers include: Jermaine Dupri, Kevin Briggs, Bryan-Michael Cox, Warren G, Jonathan Smith. In the past, soundtracks have spawned some of the hottest singles, often becoming avenues for labels to showcase both new music and new artists. With this in mind, we have So So Def's soundtrack to the Martin Lawrence vehicle BIG MOMMA'S HOUSE, touting the latest releases of the label's talented roster. Cuts like the Jermaine Dupri and Nas collaboration "I've Got to Have It" and Da Brat's "That's What I'm Looking For," provide the club-bumpin' hip-hop, while acts such as Marc Nelson and Kandi ease the pace with smooth R&B ballads. On the introduction tip, JD presents Li'l Bow Wow, So So Def's newest child rapper. Though the album is heavy on So So Def artists, it still provides enough variety to keep hip-hop heads bobbing and R&B cats dancing.
Bringing Down the House by Original Soundtrack (CD - 03/04/2003)
"Bringing Down the House" (03/04/2003) Soundtracks Original Soundtrack, Hollywood RecordsThe soundtrack to the Queen Latifah vehicle BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE boasts a plethora of contemporary hip-hop talent, mostly chosen by Latifah herself. If the combination of N.E.R.D., Mr. Cheeks, and Foxy Brown isn't enough to rock your world, then there's the sure-fire Barry White slow-burn of "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More" to ensure maximum grooviness. Brown's "Watcha Gonna Do" misappropriates the bass riff and a few lyrics from Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love" in the most exquisite way, while Mr. Cheeks's "Move Somethin" is, in inimitable Cheeks style, outrageous, absorbing, and danceable. Latifah herself makes a couple of appearances, notably on "Do Your Thing" with Mario Wynans where she brings her big-hearted, larger-than-life personality to bear on a typical "I am what I am" rap. But ultimately it's Barry White who both steals the show and locks the bedroom door from the inside with his inimitable "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little Bit More, Babe."
