Employs the DVCAM format to offer superior video and audio quality and reliability for professional use. It also features the audio lock mode for professional audio editing. At the same time, it is capable of recording and playing back the consumer DV (SP) format (The transition from cut to cut may not be smooth when recorded in the DV format). The DSR-11 weighs only 6 lbs. 2 oz. With its compact design, it can be placed on top of a PC tower or on its side by using the supplied stand. When playing back, the DSR-11 automatically detects the color system of the tape and outputs the signal. When recording through the i.LINK (IEEE-1394) digital interface, the DSR-11 detects the color system signals of the source and records accordingly. When recording through analog input, the color system of the source is set manually through a switch on the back of the unit. An indicator lamp on the front panel shows whether it is recording in NTSC or PAL. The DSR-11 can record two channels of audio with 48 kFs/16 bit or four channels of audio with 32 kFs/12 bit sampling that is selectable through the menu. The DSR-11 is equipped with a 4-pin i.LINK jack that allows digital dubbing with virtually no quality loss. It can be connected to other VTR equipment with this connection as well as to video capture boards that support the DV IN/OUT interface (IEEE 1394). In addition, the DSR-11 can copy timecode through the i.LINK connection from a non-tape source (such as a PC) when recording in the DVCAM mode. For example, if video is edited on a NLE system with a new timecode, that timecode can be copied on the tape when downloading. That way, if the timecode begins intentionally with a large number, it can be copied to the tape.

The DVCAM Digital Component Recording Format: The DVCAM format is the professional extension of the consumer DV format. The DSR-2000 employs the DVCAM format which uses 8-bit digital component recording with 5:1 compression ratio and sampling at the rate of 4:1:1 to provide high picture quality and multi-generation performance.. In addition to its high picture quality, the DVCAM videocassette tapes are available in two sizes: mini and standard. With the standard size cassette, up to three hours of recording is possible. Playback Compatibility with All DV (25 Mbps) Format: Because of its digital quality and reliability, consumer DV products have found their way into the broadcast community. And because of the widening acceptance, the DSR2000 is designed to support all DV (25Mbps) format recorded tapes, including DV tapes recorded in LP mode and DVCPRO tapes without an adapter. Pre-Read Editing Capability: Thanks to newly developed digital processing, the DSR2000 incorporates a preread editing capability never before offered in a 6.35 mm (1/4 inch) VTR. This feature allows the editor to execute a picture transition with effects between two VTRs as well as audio mixing/audio channel swapping with frame accuracy. Moreover, when performing over dubbing of audio, the usual delay experienced at an editing point is eliminated. DMC (Dynamic Motion Control): Equipped with Sony's Dynamic Motion Control Editor function, the DSR-2000 provides noiseless slow-motion playback within the range of -1 to +1 times normal speed. Functionally Designed Operating Panel: Incorporating a front panel with a built-in Jog/Shuttle dial allows two-machine editing. An optional front panel (DSBK-200) enables the editor to perform the functions of the DSR-2000 from a distance of up to 10 m. Excellent Editing Performance: Quick, mechanical response time is an essential requirement for professional editing. To achieve this, the DSR-2000 uses a direct reel and drum monitor mechanism. The DSR-2000 has the industry standard RS-422A Sony 9-pin remote control interface. This allows it to be easily integrated into conventional editing suites, thus creating a user-friendly, professional editing environment. Versatile Interfaces: All conventional analog interfaces for video, audio and time code are supported by the DSR-2000. In addition, it has digital interfaces such as the SDI, SDTI(QSDI), AES/EBU as standards, and i.LINK (DV In/Out), and SDTI (MPEG Out) as options. ClipLink: The DSR-2000's ClipLink function allows for quick and easy editing with other DVCAM camcorders featuring ClipLink or the ES-7 EditStation. 4-Channel Audio Editing: The DSR-2000 is capable of 4-Channel independent audio editing.
